Well I ask because, for example, there was a station in San Francisco that came on the air when I lived there, and there's a facebook group of just people who used to listen to it back in the day. If I had a song I can't name but I had a hunch I used to hear it on KQAK, I guarantee someone in that group would know it. Even if it's one of those bands that never really got airplay anywhere else in the world.
Cool. I moved around a lot and depending on when this song came out, I could have been in one of three different cities

lol trying to search for those lyrics turns up all the place you've posted this! Where were you living when you used to hear it thirty-forty years ago?
In the Midwest. I agree it sounds like that dog., Belly, the Sundays, and Veruca Salt. Those bands' material is on streaming services, which means it's either not them (it would have come up on Shazam/SoundHound otherwise), or it's a non-album cut off of some promo or something.

I hope you find this quest intriguing â thank you for your time!
I wish I could help.
The singer does sound familiar.
Let me ponder for a bit.
Hello good people of Radio Paradise! I'm desperately looking for a song I used to know. Here's the link to an audio snippet. (poor quality because I was driving and it was saved by SoundHound)
More info:
Probably early 90s
It doesn't come up on Shazam or SoundHound, so it's likely not on any streaming services
It may be a one-off on an obscure promo CD
Backstory:
I know I put this song on mixtapes in the 90s (possibly late 80s?)
I heard it recently on a local radio station. The station is just somebody's massive mp3 collection, no DJ, no online playlist, no web presence whatsoever, so I can't look it up there.
I've posted on Reddit and elsewhere with no luck
The lyrics:
Who pushed the button and winded (?) up insane/You came over, I think that means that anything's fair game
The refrain is I can only hope you're listening, listening to me
I hope you find this quest intriguing â thank you for your time!
