If you can afford an EV and only travel short distances, then EVs should become more affordable over time. For those of us who drive longer distances or have other special uses, it might be an idea to keep that ICE automobile or light truck in really good shape and hold on to it as long as possible. So a major regional gas station chain just rebuilt a station nearby a couple of exits away from me and the local Ohio Turnpike gate. They put in 6 or 7 Tesla quick charge stations there and they rarely sit idle. I once saw all but one in use. One day I pulled in as a lady had just got done plugging in and asked her how long does it take and how much does it cost. She answered that it takes about 15 minutes, long enough to take a potty break, get some muchies and good stretch. Said it cost $70 for a charge that would get her about 500 miles on the highway. Probably higher other places as our local electric rates are around 5.5 ¢ per KWH which is pretty cheap from what I hear these days.

USDOT Announces New Vehicle Fuel Economy Standards for Model Year 2024-2026
Friday, April 1, 2022
Standards to require fleet average of 49 mpg by 2026, save consumers money, and advance U.S. energy independence
The new Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards require an industry-wide fleet average of approximately 49 mpg for passenger cars and light trucks in model year 2026, the strongest cost savings and fuel efficiency standards to date. The new standards will increase fuel efficiency 8% annually for model years 2024-2025 and 10% annually for model year 2026. They will also increase the estimated fleetwide average by nearly 10 miles per gallon for model year 2026, relative to model year 2021.

Wow! Bad policy.
Do the calculations include EVs and Hybrid vehicles in the industry-wide fleet average? Should not.
