... Mr Hill said he understood the incident on Easter Sunday involved two teenage girls and their father.

He said the girls were understood to be capable swimmers who were caught in a rip.

The father entered the water to help his daughters but fell into trouble too.

Mr Hill said a trained lifesaver was riding her horse along the beach when she saw the situation unfold.

"She noticed the father running out with his socks on, and thought, 'That's weird'."

She climbed off her horse and swam out to the group to calm them down.

Mr Hill said the group floated in the rip while on-duty lifeguards came to assist.

Two other males saw the situation unfold and also swam out to help bring the two girls and the man to shore.

Two other people passing by also swam out to help bring the group in.

"They weren't in a great way when they got to the beach. They had taken in a bit of water and had gone into shock," Mr Hill said.

I'm guessing the horse wanted a bath. Sort of like when someone writes on a dusty car "wash me."
