Is your town within either image?

I've seen that site. A friend shared a meteorology site with radar where you can clearly see the smoke trail, and how, in the past 24 hours, the wind has shifted. We're supposed to get some rain on Friday.

The Rocky Mount Fire in Shenandoah National Park has expanded to 5,600 acres, according to the Type 1 incident management team that assumed command of the fire Wednesday morning. The fire is burning in mountain laurel, pine, and oak forests with heavy leaf litter. On Tuesday afternoon the fire burned across Skyline Drive blackening 80 to 100 acres on the east side of the highway near mile marker 76. Today crews are actively suppressing that portion of the fire, assisted by two water dropping helicopters. The wind has shifted and the smoke was very bad at work earlier. Not so bad here at home. For now. Inciweb isn't super up to date with this fire but it's interesting. With photos and other info, sometimes. Some fire managers really keep it current; some don't.

Working to keep the fire from crossing Skyline Drive: I didn't realize you hadn't had any rain - your weather often seems similar to ours (except yours is colder) when I see the larger area maps. It seems like it's been raining for a few days about every two weeks down here lately; I figured you guys were getting some of that too. Good luck to you there.

Antigone wrote:The wildfire just to the south of me has grown to 4000 acres and is making the national news. It's kind of weird; I never associate forest fires with your part of the country. They're impressive. And put a lot of gunk in the air... if you have a neti pot/saline rinse, use it, even if you don't really smell the fire.
