Wow. Figure 1895 or so for that, it's about $175 today.
But this has it at $1.50 and $3 for different models? 1896. I actually can't figure out that promotion. Subscribe to the magazine for a year to get a $1.50 model sent free. Get the $3 model if you subscribe for 6 months. "Sent Free" must mean "Free Shipping" but you pay $1.50 or $3 depending on the term. So those prices are promotional prices anyway, the going rate probably is closer to $6.66.
The Gleason Armored Joint would make a great name for a bar.

I wonder what the difference was between the $1.50 model and the $3.00 model...Bluetooth-enabled?

Cockroaches might have just become useful. Scientists at North Carolina State University are creating a team of cyborg cockroaches that will help map out disaster areas and locate the survivors. The insects are equipped with electrodes that send stimuli to their antennas, tricking them into thinking they are facing an obstacle and therefore making them change direction. This technology lets someone control them remotely and direct them to whatever target they might chose. The cockroaches also have miniature microphones mounted on their backs, which will allow the rescuers to pick up sounds and identify the status of survivors, as well as infra red sensors that can locate warm bodies. This is not the first time a cockroach has been turned into a cyborg, and of course, there is an app for that. The app lets you make your own "roboroach" that you can control from your phone...
