NOT New York City.

The media capital of the world has nothing you can listen to without an internet connection.
Shame really.

WLIR was the best but it was bought by Univision.

One day we'll make that drive. I haven't seen much of America. Well I've seen a lot of it, just not enough.

Lost the station, didn't have a strong signal I guess.  But it was really good!  Springsteen, John Prine, good stuff.

Yep, been around a few blocks.  Lived in the rowhouses by the Nabisco bakery at Roosevelt and Byberry.  Loved the smell of 'Nilla Wafers in the air.  Then Huntingdon Valley.  Gradiated from Lower Moreland HS, class of 70.  Lot's of fun up in New Hope, quarry swimming and stuff.  Ocean City was my favorite "shore" beach.  The "nickle bridges" were still 5 cents back then.

Ah, it's changed..... all over really..... Nabisco is still there though.  Areas though that you probably didnt really pay much attention to back then are lively spots now ~ Northern Liberties (just north of Spring Garden on the East Side) is a HUGE neighborhood for 90's yuppies and the hood has spread north into Fishtown/Kensington....

OC is a great island, lotsa great spots over that way, I used to live over there as well.....

NE Ohio has nothing anymore, 'cept some college radio.  WCSB, WRUW, and WJCU.  Clear Channel has done what it does here.  There is one classic rock station out of Youngstown, WYFM, 102.9 that has a neat format.  They don't play anything newer than 15 years old.  So every year they add the a new set of tracks to their library.  Its like the old songs are new again so to speak.  They still go deep with flairs of good old AOR.  They stream on the net.  http://www.y-103.com/

Ever since WMMS got caught stuffing the Rolling Stone ballot box, we've gone from the best to well, friends don't let friends listen to Clear Channel.  There was a time when the claim of the R&R Capital of the World might have been true.  Springsteen and Bowie and many other bands in the 70's broke out nationally from Cleveland.  Now they are only distant memories about the town where the "Weekend Never Ends".

Bringing this over to the appropriate thread: I humbly submit Austin:

88.7 FM KAZI Austin's African-American community radio
89.5 FM KMFA Austin's classical
90.5 FM KUT Austin's venerable NPR outlet
91.7 FM KOOP Austin's co-op community radio; diverse musical and political programming
107.1 FM KGSR the only commercial station in Austin worth a damn, and it's pretty good for local and arts programming

Some great choices here. KOOP struggled for a while now but has now found its legs. KAZI is still struggling. KGSR used to be better and more adventurous than it is now; it's more wimpy singer-songwritery Adult Alternative than it used to be (damn market consultants and their homogenization!). KUT doesn't have to worry; it's one of the most successful NPR outlets in the nation. And KMFA? Well, so long as there are dentists, their offices will play KMFA's refreshing but rather blandly familiar classical repertoire.

90.5 FM KUT wouldn't be the best name for a radio station in the Netherlands... {#Lol}
