Good point.  Can you be an atheist or agnostic and belive in the devil?  Personally I don't - I think the sad reality is that the human race has the capacity for some pretty F'ed up sh*t.

It simply depends on the situation...

I have to admit that I am woefully undereducated in this area.  I was raised a Catholic.  My x-wife is Jewish.  I spent time taking some Judiasm classes to better understand that religion.  One thing that struck me was how politicised the process was on deciding what went into the canon law (be it Catholocism or Judiasm), which served to make all the more cynical of religion.

It's on my list of things to do, read more on the history of religions.

I agree - maybe a better way to say it is I can't rule it out as a valid theory based on centuries of recorded "observation".  In science theories can be disproven.

In what way?  Would it change my view on the usefulness of religion or bolster my belief in God?  I did a quick look on Wikipedia and the line that jumped out at me was the one about removing all evildoers and backsliders!  (Surely I'd be a backslider).  I don't know much about it.

I'm greatful that religion trys to teach us a moral and good way to live - but God or not - that is the way we should live.
