It seems the Peter Principle is actively engaged at all levels of government. Mediocrity is apparently acceptable when ideologically aligned. I can't wait until someone launches the Common Sense party platform and the bread and circuses portion of the program are launched into dead airspace...

The DEA's new boss says heroin is probably more dangerous than marijuana

Acting DEA administrator Chuck Rosenberg has acknowledged that marijuana is "probably not" as dangerous as heroin, a concession that's almost revelatory given the hardline stance of his predecessors.

Of course, stating that marijuana probably isn't as dangerous as heroin is like saying ceiling fans probably aren't as loud as jet engines.

Did anyone else have a cop come to their grade school to teach this class? They brought out some green pellets that they'd light like incense and let everyone get a whiff so they could rat out whoever was burning it. When I finally did smell the real thing, I was all "no, that's something else because I know: I smelled some burning green pellets and it was nothing like that."

Most of this is second hand but I have every reason to believe it is fairly accurate.  When I was a senior in high school a cop came with some actual confiscated product and felt he should burn little of it in a pie tin he had brought with him so the class would know what it smelled like.  I was told it was pretty densely packed brick and he had broken a good sized chunk off of it.  It continued to burn for quite awhile after he had walked up and down all the aisles with it.   He asked for a student to take it to the restroom to put it out while he continued his talk.  I don't know why I didn't spend more time when it happened trying to find out how that job could have gone to anyone other than the teacher.  It's bothered me a little since.  My best guess is assuming nobody would try anything with a cop in the room they had snuck off to the lounge for something.  At any rate there were several volunteers and he picked one of them and gave him the pan.  The way he put it to me he figured someone had to be watching him and he did just what he was told, but he didn't exactly run either.   He also said that apparently the cop had not gone over his presentation in all that great detail with the vice principal because as he was there with the smoldering pan under the running water he came running in "absolutely white" started shaking him and screaming "What the hell do you think you are doing?"  Fortunately there was a policeman nearby to take care of the situation.   As I said though I wasn't actually in the class getting the demo.  My high school didn't force kids who were seniors and didn't need a full load to graduate to take one if their parents were cool with it.  They also had a scheme where not every class met every day and there was one class that met during first period Mondays, second period on Tuesdays, etc.  As a result on Tuesdays there were a lot of us with a first and third but no second period class.  I had been out in the country enjoying some broccoli with some of my friends while all this was going on.  As we were coming back for our third period class talking about whatever we talked about back then we opened the door and the aroma hit us like a wall.  Everyone fell instantly silent  for a few seconds until right as we walked by the office Patty said in what seemed a loud voice at the time "It smells like dope in here."   It occurred to me later with the discussion likely going on inside at that point we could have confessed to the Lindbergh kidnapping without any repercussions.  I did have plenty of time to get what I needed for my class and be in a good position to watch the reactions of my fellow students also not fortunate enough to be in that class as the doors flung open and they came out into the hall.  A few hidden cameras and this technique could identify conclusively who was and wasn't doing it in the entire student body.  I don't think it was ever repeated though but as I said I was a senior.
