great family and employee owned company in Maine. Great customer phone support. I've been ordering from them for over 10 years.

If you have any private outdoors space (balcony, etc) you can do a 2x2 or 1x3 grid. Doesn't need to be on dirt, I don't think.

Don't know about veggie gardens catalogs, but order a catalog from this place.  Amazing!  We went to one of their open houses a couple weeks ago.  They have really cool stuff. I wanted one of everything in the catalog.
The catalogs are free.  They ask that if you like it, you send them 10 stamps   But really, you'll like it, I promise.

Welcome to Plant Delights Nursery @ Juniper Level Botanic Gardens... the home of Plants with an Attitude! Plant Delights Nursery Inc., is a NC/USA based international mail order firm specializing in unusual perennials (some tender perennials for those of you north of zone 7). The nursery was officially opened in 1991 after 30+ years of plant collecting and selling at small back yard sales. The on-line catalog features well over 1000 different perennials, including a wide variety of US natives, as well as their asian counterparts. Genera of special focus include amorphophallus, arisaema, asarum, cannas, crinum lilies, epimediums, ferns, hardy palms, hardy ginger lilies, helleborus, heuchera, hosta, lobelia, ornamental grasses, pulmonaria, solomon's seal, tiarella, verbena, and zephyranthes, ...to mention but a few.

Which caused us to look at this system too. We're going to put in at least one (probably 2) 4x4 grids. I think onions, carrots, taters, plus a few selections of lettuce, things like that: food.

Seems like a great way to garden in small spaces.

transplants should ship fine. that's the way I usually get them. bare root, bundled with rubberbands.
did you grow the transplants from sets? do you need my address?

We bought both the sets and the transplants
I have your address. I'll get them in the mail by Tuesday.

edit:  I believe the planting instructions are pretty much the same for both. 2 inches deep. 4-6 inches apart.
We planted ours 3-4 inches apart. After 5 or 6 weeks we'll harvest every other one or so and let the rest grow large.

I have red, white yellow and  Spanish onions.
I don't know the specific names but I'll box 'em up and send them.
We planted four rows that are 12 to 14 feet long.
I think we'll have plenty.
