Ha!  I was just stopping in to say that we got six row of mesclun, two rows of butterhead lettuce, 100 leeks, 15 brussels sprouts and three beds of asparagus put in today, between three yards.  These are all things we haven't grown before, and because each yard has different soil (we have bottom land, where Lori has higher, drier hill land and Theresa is half-way between), we're going to see who does best with these.

I started some seeds inside, about two weeks late, but so be it.  48 bell peppers, 24 roma tomatoes, 12 cherry tomatoes, some Amish pinks I saved from last year.  12 green bush beans, 12 yellow string (black wax) bush beans, 12 english cukes, 18 pickling cukes.  I haven't had great luck with beans, but Theresa has about twice as many planted as I do — she's the bean queen.  If we both have good luck we'll freeze a bunch for winter.

Lori is growing all the melons — too wet at my place and they rot.  Theresa is going to expand her squash patch this year and I'm trying some mini pumpkins.

I'll put the hotter peppers in flats later.  It's really too wet at my place for the hotter peppers, but Lori and Theresa both get pepper rot for some reason.

I usually do the herbs, because I'm the only one who appreciates them.

We draw straws to see who has to grow zucchini.  I haven't lost yet.

Honestly, we started gardening together by Margarita.    We have a habit of wandering into each other's yards with a beer or a Margarita on Saturday afternoons, when one or another of us was tired of working, and saw that we each were having liuck with different things.    Didn't make sense to grow what we weren't good at.

We had some chocolate mesclun mesca never mind.

most of the gardening is done while sitting. Buzz yells at me if he sees me standing without the cane.

Talked with one of the neighbors for a bit. His english has really improved. he didn't speak any english when he moved here a few years ago. He asked me about my garlic and I promised to save him a few bulbs to plant next season.

The spring bulbs are in full bloom. Mid season daffs, early tullps, hyacinth and grape hyacinth. very colorful. the grape hyacinth have spread out into the lawn.

My RA is flared up a bit in my wrists. Cleaning the beds didn't help that much.
maybe this should have been a journal.

How is everyone's gardens coming along?

Beanie, maybe you could talk about your neighborhood co-op gardens? I would love to know how that all got started and how it works. I'd like to do something like that with our gardening neighbors.
