And real estate. So they have hard copies of signatures, required by law. Faxes won't disappear entirely until the laws change, and frankly the lawmakers have more important things to worry about.

Incoming faxes are all electronically processed and converted to email so there isn't a problem with the machines running out of paper. Nice work here everyone. Emails are the preferred method of feedback since they can be processed quickly. Snail mail is all routed to a facility somewhere outside the central capital area - anthrax attacks and all. Edit - Oh I see you already said that below Dave.

The office admin had to ask me the other day what my fax number was so she could order new business cards for me. I had no idea - in two years, I've never used it. So she just left it off. Honestly, I don't see where faxing offers anything not already available through email.

Oh, I know, believe me. But more and more doctors are sending prescriptions electronically. Most anything that can be done by fax can be done as easily (and often better) by email or Web.

Irony is ironic: I just now finished writing and sending another letter to my president about this. Then I come here, open the first thread at the top of the RAFT, and read this. We need to keep talking about this, before it becomes a foregone conclusion not only to our government, but to the citizens who will eventually check out in boredom or apathy.
