I remember hearing people jabber on about Graceland for a year at least before I listened to any of it, and then it was You can Call Me Al, which is cool, but not the "wow" songs... which took me another year, probably, to discover. All because of some notoriously iffy self-indulgent stuff that led up to it.

You probably would have had a better reaction from others if you'd just started with "I don't like Paul Simon's recent work" instead of "artists should retire after a certain age".

i still like him.  i think he's one of the only artists to continue to grow as an artist into old age.
