Yes, with up to daily harvests, it would make more sense to have tabs as months.  That also assists in the date sorting business. :-)

When you say you " it has to be able to add the weight totals by a selected range of dates", what would be an example of a date range?  During a given week?  Number of weeks? 

harvest is daily at peak. but I guess I could track a weekly if daily is too much work.
each harvest. but the total range can be fluid? because retail prices vary weekly. can I plug something in and get a weekly, monthly or whatever range I put it total?

maybe tabs could be months?

Usually you can search the internets for something like  "Vegetable garden yield spreadsheet" and get someone who has already done all the work for you. There also appears to be a lot of software/apps for gardening. Can do.  Sounds pretty straightforward.  

Two questions
- on a monthly basis, how many times do you harvest? 

- and in presenting the summed info, is it more vital to you to track total harvest weight with each harvest, or total weights accumulated by produce?  

The answer these questions guides me in how the spreadsheet might be setup.  Both can easily be tracked, but your answers will influence the design - namely, whether it's a tab per harvest, or a tab per produce type.  That's one of the design considerations I'm thinking of.

I need some Excel help. and by help I mean can you set up a simple doc for me. I think it will be simple. I tried to do it myself but Excel makes no sense to me.
here's what I need:

I want to track my garden harvest by weight, produce type and date. I am guessing we can set up the pages by Month (but that's not necessary if it works better as one page), add the dates and produce type. it has to be able to add the weight totals by a selected range of dates. maybe if it's not too much trouble, an added feature can be retail price of product on that date to track how much money I'm saving by growing my own.
I hope this makes sense. I am using Open Office if that makes any difference.
