Sounds more like paranoia (as shown by the follow-up questions), and yes, Islamophobia. Clearly these "backward savages" tinker with electronics for one reason only... i think it was his english teacher that blew the whistle (not his science/engineering instructor) and i don't the specifics of how and why he pulled it out in english class (i'm guessing he was proud of his accomplishment and was eager to show it to anyone expressing interest) if there is evidence that someone involved called him a backward savage, made reference or had a history of making references to religious discrimination i'm not aware of it and that would be a problem and it should be called out my guess is that the school employees are following a protocol ( probably similar to see something - say something) maybe the teach caught a glance of the device or didn't fully understand the context and just followed state protocol i've been working as a vendor/subcontractor for five school systems since 1997 and a lot has changed (i'm scheduled to go to a school later this afternoon) annual background checks, security picture id badges, bag/brief case checks, the whole nine yards state schools resemble prisons/correctional facilities (here they their own police force, security, camera systems and random metal detectors) is the state paranoid? are they aggressive? you bet they are (orwellian type policy is more the norm these days) the state's business model both domestically and abroad is based on initiating aggression, but it is always for our own good (blowback be damned) and in this case it is to protect the children regards

kurtster wrote:And he was arrested for what ? Irving’s police chief announced Wednesday that charges won’t be filed against Ahmed Mohamed, the MacArthur High School freshman arrested Monday after he brought what school officials and police described as a “hoax bomb” on campus. At a joint press conference with Irving ISD, Chief Larry Boyd said the device — confiscated by an English teacher despite the teen’s insistence that it was a clock — was “certainly suspicious in nature.” School officers questioned Ahmed about the device and why Ahmed had brought it to school. Boyd said Ahmed was then handcuffed “for his safety and for the safety of the officers” and taken to a juvenile detention center. He was later released to his parents, Boyd said. (...)
More a case of arrested development followed by quick backpedaling...

These years later, there are still far too many victims that haven't received one dime yet, for a host of reasons including too much redtape. I understood why who voted against it. Voting on bills is very misleading if you don't know the contents. Many votes against are due to specific amendments, just as many votes for ignore odious amendments saying the bill is too important not to pass. It cuts both ways. Uninformed voters don't know and just take the votes on the most superficial level. Its a huge part of the dysfunction and gridlock in Congress. The House Speaker and Senate majority leader are the ones responsible for this, more than anyone else. Disclaimer: I don't support Cruz It was more of a Chris Christie slush Fund, for the record.
