I like to smoke th burgers as well. However, I find that it is needful to keep them on the heat, under lid, for a minimum of thirty minutes. This ensures that all the moisture content is driven off, leaving a handsome tasting remains that can be smoked in one's burl pipe quite nicely.

I like to smoke the burgers. You just have to be careful not to overcook them. 2-3 min/side, then get them off
