My girlfriend last night talked me out of driving to Michigan for vacation.  Time for the hubby and I to have our own vacations.

But today I talked to mom, and realized I can easily talk her back into coming for the teen's graduation.

I may be OUTRAGEOUSLY SELFISH and take BOTH!  Mom & Dad come to ME for my son's graduation, and we blow off going to Michigan this year and have a vacation of our own.

What is clear, is that I have been a very very dutiful, devoted, selfless and thoughtful daughter/sister/family member.  40 vacations spent on Michigan is — like I usually do — a sizable over-achievement.

Just reminded me that my brother and his wife attended our wedding in Massachusetts! That may be because hobbitt and I paid for everybody's hotel and hosted all the meals (at his twin's house, but on our dime).

I've always thought that the question with a politician (which is really what AS has been over the last few years) is how good were they at their job, not how many illegitimate kids they have.  I really think that maybe the French have got it right on this one (I am NOT referring to DSK by the way- he is being charged with a criminal offence rather than a moral one).

although I wouldn't worry too much about the wedding just yet.........you have a few things to sort first!

It's not duty or obligation——I have a bunch of great musicians in the family. I want them at my wedding. {#Good-vibes}

EDIT: Agnes had two....and she threatened to have three—one for the KY family. Did she ever have that one yet?

I came back to Ohio about twice a year - once in summer, once at Christmas. That's all I needed.

When I move back west again, Facebook and the webcam are going to be my main means of visitation. If I get married out there, I'll bet only 10% of them will make the trip for a wedding. I'll probably have to have two. {#Rolleyes}

Part of me wants to say, "the heck with you all for never coming to visit us... we're going to the Islands instead {#Nyah}"

I'm so torn about it.

When I was a kid, our family vacation plans usually involved driving to FL from New Joy Sea to visit Dad's brother. It didn't hurt that he lived a stone's throw from Disney World. But it was as exotic as my folks could afford to be.

I doubt my brother - with his family - will ever set foot in this house. He came out here with our sisters to celebrate my 50th. His vacation plans with his wife and son NEVER involve family. He sometimes takes his son up to his twin sister's place at the beach in MA. Again, the wife doesn't go. And he doesn't host anyone because his house is too small.

I saw my family last summer because hobbitt wanted to go to the kite event in Wildwood and then that whole road trip came about. Two years prior the whole family rented a beach house on LBI for Thanksgiving. We might do something like that again, but it will have to be in New Joy Sea if we're to see the brother and his family.

Of course, our folks are no longer with us, so that does make a difference.

  That concept has always frustrated me. We get little enough vacation as it is, why do we have to spend it in stress-inducing ways? Even if you love spending time with relatives, the travel time alone really eats into the time you can spend actually relaxing. If you're like me, with NO vacation, any time away from work is so expensive as to make it prohibitive. I can't even afford a staycation, much less going somewhere.
