When I was a teenager, we wouldn't have been caught dead in a pair of jeans that were even slightly faded.  They had to be original, dark blue.  We would wear them for weeks without washing them, except for an occasional sponging of noticeably soiled spots.  They got so that we didn't even have to hang them up at night, we would just stand them up beside the bed so they were easy to find the next morning.  Eventually, they would just walk away under their own power and we would be forced to by a new pair.
