The two broods coming around this year won't be near the Northeast. Apparently there was a brood around NJ a few years ago, but I think they were along the northern and eastern parts of the state.

The steady buzz/whine/whirring of Brood XIX cicadas - billions of them. Kind of sounds like a white noise machine with the treble and volume turned way up - it's been getting louder every day.  They've been just falling on me from trees the last couple of days.

listening to the My Favorites Mix

it's showing Wandering Spirit - Mick Jagger, but it's playing Shining Star - EWF.

this is about the 4th time something like this has happened in the last 2 wks. one song playing, another song shown. it's very, very weird.

but, hey - i love Shining Star, so there's that.

It turned out to be one of the biggest (& heaviest) trees we've ever had and I positioned it under the ceiling fan with just a little but apparently sufficient clearance. I never knew that a fresh cut tree will continue to grow. We use our ceiling fan at this time of year at their lowest speed to recirculate the warm air from the high ceiling and after a couple of weeks one fan blade (only one, oddly) began to nick the top of the tree. It's like a ticking clock. A beating heart. 
The tree will be gone soon & I'm going to have to find out why one of the fan blades is lower than the other four.
