Here's the quote Scott found:

This is footnoted, asigned to correspondence with someone named Zanger (presumably his friend Heinrich Zanger) but the reference isn't available online. This was undoubtedly translated from the original German, so it has one degree of separation from reality built in. But it has some way to verify that it has some connection to Einstein.
