That is such an oft-repeated piece of slanderous bullshit, I get really upset every time I read it. I was there. I remember the '60s quite well. They were back there before the 70s sometime.  {#Roflol}

The Monkees were my first concert, too... with Gary Puckett & the Union Gap and Herman's Hermits but it was in 1986.

I saw a similar show, Who, Clash, and Buster Poindexter.   I was into the Clash, saw their Know your rights tour (at least that is what my tee shirt said) and was amused and psyched they were a warm up band.  awesome!

At the High School I attended I saw concerts in the late 60's by The Crystals, The Animals and Roy Orbison. I saw Renaissance, Fleetwood Mac and Jethro Tull all in '71. The first concert I went to that wasn't at the High School was in '68 when I went to the Grant Park Bandshell in Chicago to see Muddy Waters and Sly and the Stoned Family. Muddy Waters was great but Sly never showed and a riot ensued ending rock concerts for decades there.

Queen, at the Philly Civic Center, back in 1977. Not long after, the civic center was condemned and torn down. I think there was a connection...
