The Monkees were my first concert, too... with Gary Puckett & the Union Gap and Herman's Hermits but it was in 1986.

At the High School I attended I saw concerts in the late 60's by The Crystals, The Animals and Roy Orbison. I saw Renaissance, Fleetwood Mac and Jethro Tull all in '71. The first concert I went to that wasn't at the High School was in '68 when I went to the Grant Park Bandshell in Chicago to see Muddy Waters and Sly and the Stoned Family. Muddy Waters was great but Sly never showed and a riot ensued ending rock concerts for decades there.

Queen, at the Philly Civic Center, back in 1977. Not long after, the civic center was condemned and torn down. I think there was a connection...

Think they made an album from that show. Had the Grass Roots and Jose Feliciano play at our High School in 66 and 67 for afternoon concerts. But the first concert I got to see without adult supervision was Ravi Shankar at UC Irvine in 67 just after he had played at the Monterrey Pop Festival. He played for nearly 4 hours and my dad was real mad that he had to wait for several hours in the parking lot for the show to end. He thought it would only last an hour and a half at most. Limelighters, 1959, Cal Poly gym. Before that, we lived in a town so small that if there was a concert, I was playing in it. wow. you really are older than dirt
