The second Nelson Mandela concert at Wembley in 1990 was the first proper concert I went to (as opposed to gigs at university).

Opening act: Howdy Doody Rock Ensemble (a Black Oak rip off)
Main act: The Grass Roots!

Because the rumor was that Jeanne Dixon had predicted that the Civic Center would collapse from the loudness of the rock music.

Of course, that means I had to be there. And I still remember Gary Manuel making fun of me for wearing tennis shoes. Bastard.

I've been wracking my brain trying to remember and it's just not happening. 

I do remember the last concert I saw however.

One of the funnest things, this young guy was cruising the crowd, and he walked behind me, then next to me, then in front of me, sat down on the ground, split a cigar, flipped off his hat, takes out his weed and rolls a great big spliff right there. Then he lights it, takes a big hit, and hands it to me. I swear to god!!! I passed it around to the crowd, and thanked him, and he wandered off.

I got so wrecked that I couldn't remember how to get home, and I sat by the squirting fountains in Millennium Park until I figured out where my train was.

What a great day! Ah!

Had it been my wife, she wouldn't have ever accepted a second date with me after having been subjected to Carlos' ultra-extended, high-pitched excursions into the ether. To her, his playing has the same effect as a dog whistle has on canines.

(As a matter of fact, I don't think I took her to any concerts until after we were married, when it was too late for her to decide she didn't like screaming electric guitars.)

Santana at Acker Gym at CSU Chico in 1976.  I took this chick that I met at school.  It was our first date.  I've been married to that woman for 28 years.

I'm ashamed to admit that my first one was Poison and Warrant, in 1990; I was in high school and took a girl that I had a crush on at the time.My second one was quite a bit better...Pink Floyd.
