But not all series are created equal. So I'm using my best judgment on each one.
 
For instance, you can have eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast. But you could also say that he whirled around, saw that the guests had arrived ten minutes too soon, and hurried to let them in. I would feel the longer phrases call for the Oxford more than the series of food.
