sometimes the road is crystal
and sometimes i feel like I'm losing my mind
tell me what it is what you think you're missing
and i will see what i can find

you want to be so sure of
every step you take
you cant always know what's coming
you cant always trust the twist of fate

oh my love my heart is set on you, set on you
oh my love my heart is set on you, set on you

stars shine down from the black
and we're picking though this broken glass
well how could we know that our lives
would be so full of beautifully broken things

oh my love my heart is set on you, set on you
oh my love my heart is set on you, set on you

war is the most vulgar madness
and winters can be so cruel
you can't always change the way things are
like i can't change the way i think of you

oh my love my heart is set on you, set on you
oh my love my heart is set on you, set on you
oh my, love my, love my love
oh my love my heart is set on you, set on you

It's fairly common for artists (especially cartoonists) to use the "people-in-boxes" motif, and has been long before Robert Crumb did so.  People here are far too eager to use the word "rip-off" anyhow.  However, it wouldn't surprise me if Matthews' drawing was inspired by that particular work of Crumb's; a lot of people have been inspired by Crumb.

Thankfully there are less (read no) dangling penises in the DMB cover.
Good Tune!
Meeeeoooooowwwww!!!!
My favorite album will always be "under the table" .  I just couldn't enjoy any other albums.  and this song is a prime example.. Seems schizophrenic without a good theme.  I'm constantly confused by the disjointed flow of this song.
is the negativity towards DMB an American thing because they are really popular there? They are virtually unheard of in the UK. Seen them several times in London and they have always been great. I’m a big fan, especially live.

Seriously. Just take a walk or bathroom break for 5 minutes.

For everyone who complains about how terrible this and other songs are on RP, all I can say is: I am eagerly awaiting to hear your album, which no doubt contains far superior songs that you've written, arranged, performed and recorded.
I've heard more songs by Dave Matthews on RP than on all of the FM stations I've listened to, combined.

Thanks, RP!
Oh, milleium party in Charlottesville, beautiful memory
of my youth
A tour with Hootie and the Blowfish makes sense to me.

Not sure if the ending did it for me, though I did go 6 to 7 today on this one.  And my "issue" with DMB has less to do with his voice compared to others (I like Dylan, etc.) - for me it's more the association it has with the time in my life that I heard these.  Well that was about 15+ years ago, and this is newer than that....so there's the +1.  Long Live RP!!

(I will say I like Dave's acting, he's a nice guy I've met a couple times including almost being run over by him)

...and....OMG!!  The Wiki info for DMB shows the following (I'll leave the jokes to the rest of ya)

The group's most recent album, 2018's Come Tomorrow, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, making Dave Matthews Band the first group to have seven consecutive studio albums debut at the peak. As of 2018, the Dave Matthews Band has sold more than 100 million tickets since its inception and a collective 91 million CDs and DVDs combined.  FREAKING AWESOME!!

In August 2004, DMB was at the center of a controversy when about 800 pounds of liquid human waste was dumped from band member Boyd Tinsley's tour bus through the grate in the Kinzie Street Bridge in Chicago onto passengers aboard a sightseeing boat on the Chicago River below.  FREAKING GRUESOME!!

Byrne can be so proud about being in that list twice. Solid work Dave, much love.

This has got to be a Jack Black parody of DMB.  Surely Dave wouldn't have produced anything this ridiculous.

Seriously tight band, brilliant songs, no hate from this little welsh valley.
This travesty cements the case for making PSD an option on Sonos.

Riff is no bad, quite really good. the problem is that you have to wait for all the rest of the song...
Have no previous with Dave Mathews but had to hit the PSD button. Sonically irritating.

This is arrant pedantry up with which I shall not put.

You know when Britney Spears is doing a live show and they isolate her voice so you can hear what she really sounds like without the background music and auto-tune? Kinda sounds like...Dave Matthews.
Are Coldplay and Dave Matthews the same band?

His voice is.....oh, um.....something which should not be heard by anyone other than his mother.
thank you for sharing that great piece of fine art stegokitty!     cool visuals, this song is awful and their album art's lame

Same sentiment here. I just do not get the DMB bashing either. It's almost as if they have committed some special sin since it just cannot be their music. For an example of their talent and passion and an example of just how good they are in concert, take a look and listen at this opener to their NYC concert from a while back - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTGAaHOIT4U. I guess some things just become memes to be mindlessly transmitted...
I too am a naysayer of Dave Matthews band, shuddering at the sound of his 90's nostalgia music... but this song is good and the album art is really poignant as well!

While I can relate to the Counting Crows being extremely boring, I really do not understand the Dave-Matthews-bashing here on Radio Paradise. Objectively, this song is as interesting as many other that are played here, and get way higher ratings. Taste-wise, I must say I like this a lot, and the musicianship is stunning.

I'll keep listening to DMB's music just to bask in the virtuosity of Carter Beauford's drumming.
Like much of Dave Matthew's music, I find this tedious.
Looking forward to seeing Dave & His AWESOME band in South Lake Tahoe this summer!

This song is good for the ears...

Nice song, (do I hear a hint of Peter Gabriel in his voice ?), not a thirteen in a dozen song, as the rating shows, I gave it an 8.
I agree wholeheartedly with RP community so often its nice sometimes to disagree to remind myself I'm still a free-thinking person!

Fkin love this song xD
Rock is about much more than talent. It is also about vision and purpose, both of which are sorely lacking here.

I seriously don't get why Dave Matthews gets such below-average ratings here on Radio Paradise. It seems to be more of a cultural thing than anything else. Example of the day: Coldplay. What did Dave do to deserve this?

I'm not sure if it's a "cultural thing", but I never found Coldplay very similar to DMB.  I think people who dislike the band are generally annoyed by his voice, and all the "musical talent" in the world may not make up for that.  Who knows?  One cannot be objective when it comes to tastes in music, but to assert that there is some sort of cultural conspiracy against Dave Matthews is absurd if not delusional.

Yeah, I don't get the 'dislike' either—'hate' is too strong a word, yes? At least on this song the band plays to its strengths: Boyd Tinsley is terrific as is Jeff Coffin (I guess LeRoi Moore's replacement). And I've always considered Carter Beauford one of the very best drummers around.
Could it be because so many chicks flocked to his gigs?  {#Ask}
Apparently donated $1 to help with Sandy efforts. Very astute.
