Have no fear
For when I'm alone
I'll be better off
Than I was before
I've got this light
I'll be around to grow
Who I was before
I cannot recall
Long nights allow
Me to feel I'm falling
I am falling
The lights go out
Let me feel I'm falling
I am falling
safely to the ground
I'll take this soul
That's inside me now
Like a brand new friend
I'll forever know
I've got this life
And the will to show
I will always be
Better than before
Long nights allow
Me to feel I'm falling
I am falling
The lights go out
Let me feel I'm falling
I am falling
safely to the ground
For when I'm alone
I'll be better off
Than I was before
I've got this light
I'll be around to grow
Who I was before
I cannot recall
Long nights allow

Eddie Vedder's voice is a treasure
I think Eddie would make for an interesting dinner guest at my table. Always a plate for Eddie if he ever shows up.

If you haven't seen this movie - check it out - INTO THE WILD

Hey, good news, the guy in "Into The Wild" has been found alive.
Nothing to worry about, people.

I agree. And I still think about that movie. True Story.

We are pretty torn on this one right?

This song gives me goosebumps EVERY time. Love this whole album.

Blixa Bargeld (Einstürzende Neubauten, Industrial) once said: "Sound, or how something sounds, is way overrated. Some sounds just fit better with the context."
I think in the context of the song the voice, guitar and mood fit really good.

I suggest you find where eddie got the commission for this song.It wasn't a cowboy. Who and why the character is failing, why the light go out. It may turn you around.
There's just too much sad cowboy music on RP already to want to rate Vedder up

Actually anything with "mumbles" Vedder singing could qualify as worst song ever, so this person is not far off.
Hey, he's not the worst ever.
Just far too close, far too often.
(~_^)
He is a lot like Dylan or Neil Young, better writer than singer, though Dylan uses his instrument better, and both are better writers than Eddie

Music and voices are a subjective thing. People seem to love it, give the people what they want. I am with you though, I think most of his music sucks and his voice is irritating as Hell, but I get why some people may like it. I mean I like Bob Dylan's voice in full recognition that he cannot sign worth a lick however Dylan is a great songwriter so there is that and Eddie..... well Eddie just sings like a sheep.
This guy and all his music just sucks. Stop drinking the Kool Aid

"Worst song ever"? Really? I guess you've never heard "Watching Scotty Grow", "Billy, Don't Be A Hero", or "We Didn't Start the Fire".

So true...
Eddie was the perfect voice for this film. It was sad and beautiful simultaneously. Never take the people who love you for granted; your chances to reciprocate are finite.
So true...
worst song ever!
Man , the imagery this brings. (After seeing the flick of course)
exactly
Love the sense of melancholy and resignation this song gives..
Excellent book. Heard mixed reviews on the movie.

Why did I ever think Eddie could sing?

Amazing Soundtrack for a wonderful movie. I found myself crying quite often watching it the first (well and the second...) time.

No Kool Aid drinking Johnny. PJ is not the "world's most popular band" anymore - if they ever were - that you "just got to like them like everyone else."
Ed's solo work is an extension of mature and diverse explorations (for a guitar driven "hard rock" band) that PJ has taken over the last 20 plus years. Some of us have decided to take the journey with Ed and the band. I am richer for it.
And Johnny, I'm surprised, I thought you took your nom de RP from "Johnny Guitar " and "Big Wave," two great PJ songs.

Even as the movie and the whole soundtrack.
My opinion: much better than Eddie in Pearl Jam!
