I'll grow when you grow
Let me loosen up the blindfold
I'll fly when you cry
Lift us out of this landslide
Wherever you go
Whenever we part
I'll keep on healing all the scars
That we've collected from the start
I'd rather this than live without you
For every wish upon a star
That goes unanswered in the dark
There is a dream I've dreamt about you
And from afar, I lie awake
Close my eyes to find I wouldn't be the same
I'll shine when you shine
Painted pictures on my mind
Sun sets on this ocean
Never once on my devotion
However you are
Or far that you're fall
I'll keep on healing all the scars
That we've collected from the start
I'd rather this than live without you
For every wish upon a star
That goes unanswered in the dark
There is a dream I've dreamt about you
And from afar, I lie awake
Close my eyes to find I'd never be the same
Without you, without you?
Let me loosen up the blindfold
I'll fly when you cry
Lift us out of this landslide
Wherever you go
Whenever we part
I'll keep on healing all the scars

Back when this first came out, I wanted to learn it on my uke. I it looked up on YouTube and the only lesson was from a gentleman in Spain. The video was in Spanish, but I was able to figure it out. I managed to learn the whole song, and I was quite proud of myself. Unfortunately, I've pretty much forgotten everything since then. I still love the song though. I might have to try and refresh my memory.
What a fucking voice this guy has got.
Kazoo had a way with the uke; enjoying listening to this tonight
Wow. I really like this. I am not usually a fan of Mr. Vedder's voice/style. Lovely.

I wouldn't put this in my CD player for a road-trip, but I would keep it close for when I need inspiration to write. It's so beautiful and simple and inspiring...

Eddie, Eddie, Eddie... love your voice forever.
So, this seems like sufficient proof that Eddie Vedder is Cat Stevens, in witness protection...
Love this tune, fun to play on the uke. I judge the album to be very good, an interesting departure for Vedder.
Please no. My ears are ringing already.
I love Pearl Jam, I love Eddie, I really wanted to love this album. However, it just isn't happening. If you really want to hear what a Ukulele can do, play some Yonder Mountain String Band!

It's a nice tune, after another listen. 7. Cool RP Logo, too!

It means that sirdroseph doesn't like Eddie's vibrato. That's fine for him, but he's missing out on 20 years of amazing music.

A sheep is still a sheep even when bleated alongside a ukelele.

I kinda feel like anybody could do this song. But if you want it to be good, maybe try giving it to Ray LaMontagne.

Bill: this wasn't too bad a song the first three times I heard it. But when you play it once a day or so, it makes me reconsider being a regular listener of RP. Eddie didn't discover the ukelele. It is not the best instrument for his voice. There are many, many other songs that have ukeleles in them; most offer better singers. Please find them if you have to ride out your ukelele jones.
Enough with the ukeleles! Arrghh, making me switch over to MOG for a while.

Argh. The monotone plinking song.

Why is this song on again? Have I accidentally hit a commercial radio station. Enough already!!! Initially gave it a 6, then went to 4, now it's at an inflated 2.

What does Damien Echols have to do with this? Other then Eddie V. supporting the West Mephis Three there is no connection.
That's like saying Jullian Assange supports Pakistan because he released documents where the US ambassador is talking smack about them.
Or that owning a pet beaver will keep you from being attacked by tigers because you have a pet beaver and have never been attacked by tigers.
DAMIEN ECHOLS on the UKULELE!

I don't hear much ukulele playing; more like some strumming. And it's one thing to have some ukulele on a few songs and quite another to do a full album. I just think that he is using the instrument as a gimmick.
I agree with your thinking to some extent, although I like this song. RP played another cut from this album and I thought "an album worth of Eddie with a ukelele...how fast can I get away from the speakers?"
He's not my cup of tea as a singer, although some songs of his were truly wonderful ("Face of Love" with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on the "Dead Man Walking" Soundtrack and what I've heard of the stuff for the movie Into the Wild). I am glad he's trying new directions and not sticking to a Pearl Jam rut.
Why did he decide to do a whole album of ukelele songs? Someday I'll have to noodle around on the Web and find out.

I was a big fan of Pearl Jam when they first came out, and then got bored sometime after Vs. came out. I too like this side of Eddie and am coming back into fandom for Eddie Vedder.
I'm sorta loving this side of Eddie Vedder. I can understand his words, and the ukelele is just such a simple, beautiful sound (and NOT easy to play!) Might have to invest in this CD for perfect summer days in my garden...

Didn't this just get played a few days ago?
This is a bad joke. I'd rather hear Tiny Tim.

Agreed, Vedder's lyrics are lovely, and the melody is intricately woven around them.
It would be premature to judge this song before the 3-4th listening. Nice work Eddie.
Beautiful song, very much growing on me......

This album/cd is only ok. There's 3 or 4 songs ( this is one of them) that's really good. The rest are just ok.
The sound and feel of this work is similar to "Into the Wild" soundtrack he did a few years back. The Into the Wild CD is excellent, this is just ok
There ya got it, my 2 cents!
Thank you for your 2 cents. I needed the money. Seriously, I appreciate the rec. I have every intention of investing in the "Into The Wild" soundtrack, but I really love this side of Eddie Vedder, so I'll probably buy this CD, too.The sound and feel of this work is similar to "Into the Wild" soundtrack he did a few years back. Good song, singing, melody, uke
Why not do an album using the Ukulele! It's simple, crisp and associated with earth loving people in my opinion. Love to Eddie.

Thank you. And as I said before, there are some excellent players who have not gained the recognition.

Fair enough. I generally enjoy most of what Vedder does, but in the case of this album, I'm not overly impressed myself. I just felt that your reaction seemed a bit harsh, though I must say that other artists do invoke a similar reaction in me.

Please explain to me how he's gone and done something unusual here? He's already been playing the ukulele (see: Soon Forget from PJ's Binaural album from 2000, plus songs from the Into the Wild Soundtrack). Don't think he's really done far out of "his zone" on this one, and I don't really see how he's a poser. He has very overtly credited The Who for inspiring much of his ukulele writing.

I can't believe that Bill would play this poser and not a real ukulele player like Victoria Vox. I never did like Eddie Vedder or Pearl Jam and now he appears to be trying to do unusual things just to get attention.

Eddie vedder's voice adds EXACTLY the resonance that ukulele needs. I am mesmerized.
I don't think I'll be buying this album. My perception is it's a bit overkill but for all you ukelele fans out there it has to be a win..
Wow a song from Eddie Vedder I like. Who would have thunk it.
heard him perform this on Letterman earlier this week.. it has been in my mind ever since...! absolutely beautiful, and can't wait to hear him play it live in Long Beach in a couple of weeks!
Lovin it.

I'm not saying Jimi Hendrix couldn't play the accordion, but why would he want to record an entire album of it?

As a former uke player myself, I appreciate all Eddie Vedder draws from this humble little instrument. Lovely!
Well done, I might have to give up Vedder bashing!
Is this the kinder, gentler Vedder? I really like this song - and I expect him to come out with some kick-ass rockers to offset his softer side, even while hoping for more of THIS side of him.
