John can stuff it. He had some crap songs too. Not every song has to be a profound statement on the human condition, a dirge, lament etc. There's room for sentimental music that calls back to an earlier period

Recently I've been listening to the RP Mellow Mix in addition to the Main Mix.  Have heard several songs, including this one, that I have never heard in the Main Mix.

It's like discovering a new RP!  Or nirvana, i.e. the state of being, not the group.

Long live the multiple streams of RP!

i love paul songs  they are just fun  i think paul and john balanced each other out perfectly  john kept paul from getting too silly and paul brought a certain lightness and musicality to johns work  given the dynamic of two strong artistic personalities the break was inevitable

It's the Paul stuff that gets us interested in the Beatles when we're children. But it's the John stuff that turns us on to serious music when we're adolescents and adults. Finally, when we're old, Paul's stuff makes us nostalgic for our youth. A band for all seasons.

I like Paul and his cutesy stuff.  I also like his other stuff.
I can't imagine to be creatively intense your whole life
through, and never want to fluff things up a little.
I like this song.  I used to sing it to my mother and
she laughed, which is a good thing.  A nine baby, a nine.

John Lennon referred to this type of writing by Paul as his "granny shit". A real miracle of cooperation that those two were able to collaborate at all, and to such wonderful result.

Judging by your comment, I'd guess you were born a substantial amount of time after this song was released, especially if you "don't see how some people give it a 9 or 10 (or 1 or 2)".  The anachronistic use of a 21st-century product as a point of reference for a song that was released in 1967 is also somewhat telling.  The song, however, is a "catchy and non-threatening" tune, like the majority of Paul McCartney's work could be said to be.  I guess in response to your wondering why there are such high ratings: I think it's because a lot of the listeners here have heard and enjoyed this song since they were young and the song was "new".  Anyhow, I am not trying to engage in any sort of "age-discrimination" attacks, I was just making a less-than-astute observation.
