Si yo fuera Maradona viviría como él
Si yo fuera Maradona frente a cualquier portería
Mil cohetes... mil amigos
Si yo fuera Maradona frente a cualquier porquería
Nunca (¿siempre?) me equivocaría...
Si yo fuera Maradona frente a cualquier portería

Si yo fuera Maradona perdido en cualquier lugar

Manu Chao - La Vida Tombola, Live Baionarena (2008):
If I were Maradona
live like him
if I was Maradona
against any goal
if I was Maradona
never m'wrong
if I was Maradona
lost anywhere.
Life is a tombola* ...
night and day ...
Life is a tombola*
and up and up ....
If I were Maradona
live with it
... thousand rockets ... thousand friends
and whatever comes to a thousand percent ...
if I was Maradona
would in mondovision
to shout to FIFA
That they are the big thief!
Life is a tombola ...
night and day ...
Life is a tombola
and up and up ....
If I were Maradona
live like him
because the world is a ball
we live to bloom skin
If I were Maradona
against any crap
I was never wrong ...
If I were Maradona
and a party that won
if I was Maradona
lost anywhere ...
Life is a tombola
night and day ...
Life is a tombola
and up and up ...

perfect for what I needed at that very moment - thanks.
I don't know if this artist is Spain-ish... but in Spain, someone who is WASTED all of the time can be called a "Golfo"... in case anyone was wondering about the shirt he's wearing... that's my guess.
The music versus the jacket photo is chuckle-quality.
It's like this is in some other language or something...
This guy is a great musician, however, he had better times with Mano Negra and he has other solo albums (Desaparecido could be one) that are much better that this one.
Lately his songs sound exactly the same and his running out of ideas, taking phrases from old popular songs in spanis in all songs.
I also have completely different political views. But again, he is a great musician.

Watch his show live! Great songs, great party!!

Every single song of his is a rip off of an earlier song of his. This man lacks originality big-time. Boring... leave this to corporate radio please!!!

I'm not sure what there is to NOT like. But a previous comment was quite correct... this is not his best album.
I love Manu Chao. I'm getting the impression though that either you like him or you don't.
Granted — not even CLOSE to the likes of Buena Vista Social Club, but I like this style of culture.
surprised it's only 5.8....

Esta cancion cansa...
This is not his best work. He does really good inspirational catchy tunes too. I recommend Desaparecido.
He was one of the headliners at the first night of the Austin City Limits festival last night. After hearing him here I went to check him out.
I generally don't give low ranks to songs because it seems kind of petty, but I had to rank this a 3. The description of a 3 is "Ho Hum" and that about sums it up. The performance didn't offend me, but after about 30 minutes I grew very tired and bored.

So he always sounds kind of the same, but still a good listen.

If I was Maradona, I would be in reharb.
A nice tribute to Diego Maradona, possibly the greatest footballer ever, certainly the footballer who fell the greatest distance under the severe pressure of worldwide fame and notoriety.

We as listeners and comment posters only know what we see in your little description of yourself. What Sol planet 3 means is obvious, where the hell it is on this planet of ours is pretty vague. So if you are going to take offense of every little thing some one says of your posts do the following. Be more specific about who you are so we have better ammunition to flame you.
My user name is horstman. So that means that I'm a man, my name is Horst and I live in Syracuse NY. Shit, you could probably find me in the phone book and toilet paper my house if you desired or if I offended you too much.
Are we clear on this?
I bet he could keep tots in those pants.
I like Manu Chao a lot. . .but I wish his songs were more varied. This sounds a heck of a lot like Desaparecido, which sounds a heck of a lot like Me Llaman Calle. All good songs, yeah, but all so so similar.

Which "aweful" country are you talking about anyway? Spain? France? Argentine (since the song is about Maradona)? Or just generally all Spanish speaking countries? I sure hope you don't win that trip to Costa Rica... guess you wouldn't like that "garbage country" either.

What country do you suppose? Manu Chao is from France, Spain, Latin America...
So I think that any of these are garbage. If you don't like the music doesn't mean anything about the country.

I think you misunderstood the soccer reference... Manu Chao was never a soccer player, he was only responsible for the soundtrack to some movie about Maradona. As for the disctinctive, immediately recognizable sound, that's definitely true, and IMO a mixed blessing. I like the sound, but it does get old, and he doesn't offer a lot of variation. Even the artists that he produces sound like him (see Amaou & Mariam).

Just got the CD and was very, very disapointed. Lack of imagination as the songs all sound the same whether in english, french or spanish.
One of the stupidest lyrics I have ever heard...
Man, not cool.
yo he tenido mucha suerte.
Por que todo mi cariño,
a tu número jugué.
Yo soñaba con tu nombre,
esperaba conocerte.
(oooh)
(tom tom tómbola) (tom tom tómbola)
¡Tómbola!
En la tómbola del mundo,
yo he tenido mucha suerte.
Por que todo mi cariño,
a tu numero jugué.
Yo soñaba con tu nombre,
esperaba conocerte.
Cantando, cantando, cantando...
Mi corazón.
¡Tómbola!
