Early this morning, he knocked on my door
Early this morning he knocked on my door
I said Hello, Satan, I believe it's time to go
Me and The Devil are walkin' side by side
Me and The Devil are walkin' side by side
Well, I'm goin' to beat my man until I get satisfied
He says I don't do him right
That I dog him around
Well, babe, you know you ain't treating me right
He says I don't do him right
that I dog him around
Well, it must be this old evil spirit
So deep down within the ground
You may bury my body down by the highway side
...oh, babe I don't care what you do with my body
You may bury my body down by the highway side
So my old evil spirit can catch a Greyhound bus and ride
Early this morning, he knocked on my door
Now me and The Devil are walking side by side
Side by side

Nice segue from "Conversation with the Devil", but boy, is this song boring. So soporific it could cure insomnia, so numbing it could be used for anaesthetic in open heart surgery. Pure Aural Mogadon {#Sleep}
We don’t have Mogadon Stateside. Sounds an awful lot like a hundred-foot creature bent on terrorizing Tokyo. However from the context I’m guessing that’s wrong.  ; P

On another note, it could well be Cartesian Anxiety that's stalking us all these dire days.

Oh, 7 for me on this song.  : )
I generally like the Cowboy Junkies.  But cannot stand this piece.
Awful, awful, awful. Please stop playing so much of the Cowboy Junkies. Most overrated "alternative" band of the last 30 years. Are they subconscious Velvet Underground clones, or Demics clones, or Teenage Head, or, Bauhaus, or a Debbie Harry tribute band played at 33 1/3 instead of 45 rpm? Or a Natalie Merchant botch job because the lead singer couldn't get passionate enough about what she's singing. Awful. Please stop.

Sorry to be brutal, but I'm from Toronto and this band is 4th rate vs. the plethora of others RP could be playing from that region of the Nafta zone, if they want to celebrate Canadiana. No other reason to play this maudlin Toronto-suburb no-talent stuff otherwise. Will keep paying $10/month anyway, until I've heard too much CJ; getting close.
Wow, that's a pretty racist album title isn't it?
Brooooooooootal.

This is my favorite comment on the site.  Pulled abstraction into sharp concrete relevance .  Thanks!

Everybody in my mushrooming multitude of elevators loves this groovy song...  we think; therefore we do...  we be slowly dancing like happy hippies...  love sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll...  hope your existence is grand these days and you are sleeping well, fredriley...
2 -> 7
I suddenly like it.
most annoying bass line ever...
the absolute worst. everything they touch is turned to stone and oh, so pretentious.
Great track.  Most oldies wont get it though.

No, come to think of it! {#Roflol}

That PSD button sure did get me out of a "me or it" deadly moment tonight. Talk about coma-inducing.

I'm actually a bit of a fan, but will disclose, the only time I almost fell asleep at a show (without drugs of course) was when I saw the Junkies.

for me it was watching the Marriage of Figaro in a box in the opera house in Orvieto.  I missed the entire 3rd and 4th acts.

Are they cowboys who are also junkies, or are they just crazy for cowboys?
ZZZZZ

Too much sunshine for this song.
Would be better in small hours. maybe cold and fog.

Need wine... lots of dark black-red wine

No, you are not alone. I have always found her voice and their music insipid and unworthy. Just my opinion.

I really liked The Trinity Sessions when it came out.  So my girlfriend got me this for my birthday.  I don't think I ever got past the first 2 songs.
Has it started yet?

Agree

edit: scary looking bunch on the album cover.
this has a lovely sound, a bit dreamy like Mazzy Star, but more like a crisp moonlit night than a warm bath
totally awf.. it's not often i want to switch off because of a weird song, but i beg of you, please take this off the rotation! you're still my fav thoe, love ya forever RP
Am I the only one who absolutely hates the Cowboy Junkies?
I think there is a much cooler version of this song on the Pump up the Volume soundtrack. Gots backward guitar (violin) in it? I think?
I usually like the Junkies. This is not doing it for me. Next.
Love the Cowboy Junkies...hypnotic.
ARRRRGGGGHHH! The Boring Flunkies never got out of the ''lonesome whippoorwill' mode.
After a quarter century, please do an uptempo number...you used to be a drop-dead stunner, Margo,
but you never learned how to SCREAM!
Oops, wrong radio station... Sorry!
nice song, overplayed.  psd.
< i'm starting to feel that i might need a macro for this>
guitar, bass, voice, how wonderful! {#Music} simple recipe for pure pleasure!
What  great Sunday morning song!
You nailed it UncleHud!  that bass action sincerely (almost silently) commandeers this piece,  it has me liking them junkies again
Nothing a good dose of Rock and Roll through a Marshall amp won't cure.
 lily34 wrote:

I'd agree normally, but I'm listening tonight on a stereo with the bass turned WAAAAY up, and for the first time ever, I hear some activity in a Junkie tune.  Singer and guitar zonked out on Xanax, bass player on speed and/or LSD.

Liking the flow and her voice. A bit repetitive.
I could have sworn she was singing about Emmerdale until I looked at the song title.
Bought this album when it first came out.. apparently only 10K copies were pressed so i treasure my copy like you can't imagine. Always thought this was their best...spare and minimalist with deep feeling. If you're looking for incredible musicianship, no this album ain't it. But if you want to hear an original blues sound, played sparingly and under the influence of a hangover...this is it. S
devil's advocate
For me, this song is like this movie.
Star appeal? Yes, I love CJ. Like it?
...yes, but not sure I would want
repeated runs of either. 5
Hurt me Margo
Naked beauty.
Love the haunting flow of this music.
Love it, nice and slow.

I was convinced that it was! When it saw it was CJ I thought my media player was doing that thing where the stream info gets stuck.

I'm sure they are disappointed.

Actually, I just don't like her voice, plain and simple. Kinda hard to like a band when you can't stand the lead singer's voice ya know?

What they did best. The old stuff is straight from the heart. Loved it then Love it now. This one- haunting and coool.

Weirdest. Album Title. Ever.
Happy
I had a friend, who could sing like Pantera, and was the spitting image of Reznor, who was abused by his woman.  Brave for a woman to sing a protest song about it.
Ouch
Nice song,
Insert Here : B-52's Revolution Earth
Usually love 'em, but this is far from their best. A very disappointed 4....
sounds soooo like pj harvey.....
certainly exellent!

unfortunately the devil took him away from us....
The bass line sounds very middle eastern, I like that.{#Cool}

Gorgeous, haunting voice.

I wish the Boring Monkeys--as I call them--would take their own advice from the title of this LP and take a sidereal hike. This despite the fact that I lust profoundly for the beauteous Margo Timmins, who had the worst photo ever taken of her used on the cover.
...reminds me a lot of mazzy star's more spartan moments (or vice-versa, i suppose)...
boy, the cowboy junkies sure know how to make boring music.
