I've got a rabbit, it likes to hop
I've got a girl, and she likes to shop
The other foot looks like it won't drop
I had an uncle and he got shot
Is this greeting the type that's meant for me?
Are you part of this khakistocracy?
This ringing in my ears won't stop
I've got a red Japanese teapot
I've got a pen but I lost the top
I've got so many things you haven't got
A fellow's craft is just not for sharing
He's not an intimate secretary
I've got a rabbit, it likes to hop
I've got a girl and she likes to shop
The other foot looks like it won't drop
I had an uncle but he got shot
Venerable obscurest malarkey
A doulocracy ecclesiarchy
Our fellow's craft is just not for sharing
He's not an intimate secretary
The exarchy inspector inquisitor
I dare mock an illustrious master
Are you part of this khakistocracy?

Ecclesiarchy--a society led by the clergy. It seems as if they're trying to say...uh, well I still haven't got a clue.
The greek root of Ekklesia essentially means a "gathering of citizens" or a "gathering of those called-out", generally referring to the "body of the church" when used throughout the Bible.
Good question on what this means... A society led by members of the church? A society led by a large group of people? Is it only led when they're gathered in a specific place? Seems somewhat ambiguous :) Perhaps it's an extremely hands-on implementation of a democracy...
This must be the 15th time I've heard this song on RP, but I just heard the word Ecclesiarchy, which I believe they made up, but has an obvious meaning.
So, kakistocracy--government by the worst people (essentially), and Ecclesiarchy--a society led by the clergy. It seems as if they're trying to say...uh, well I still haven't got a clue.
I've got a Winamp and it hit stop.

Not the only one to hear it.

No no no. It's like that Beatles album where Paul isn't wearing any shoes. Something like that.
I saw them on PBS last week. They were OK,but kind of stiff.
please don't play this.
Yeah, this one sucks. Normally I try to just grit my teeth and wait through the few songs I don't like, but this...where is the redeeming merit in this?

The word ecclesiarchy earns this a 6 at least.

Do body parts count?

This is probably the first song around here I rated 1/10. Simply can't stand it. I loved their "Steady as she goes" though.
At least I have a top for my pen.

And by the way, my 4-year-old daughter would like to know whether you are Dora the Explorer's horse, Pinto, communicating through the Internet by tapping the keys with his hooves. If you are, she would like to send you a big wet kiss!
Whatever. It was a clever comment the first time around, but you've posted it three times now (twice on this song and once on another of their songs) and since you're quite capable of posting some insightful comments it would be nice if you could provide some new material.

that's not wine they gave him to drink, it's blood (jack's blood). and now he's one of them but only halfway...until he makes his first kill....

It's freakin' rock 'n roll. Is there something more that you need right at this moment?

I take this song to mean that the narrator is overwhelmed by the absurdities of life, based on lines at the end of the verses like, "The other foot looks like it won't drop, the ringing in my ears won't stop."
Not too sure about the intimate secretary part, though.
ouch.

Yes, we got your comment when you posted it on September 12, too.
Love these guys; new yet old. Goes to show that lyrics need not be "deep" for a song to be enjoyable.
washington d.c. before nov 7th. !! =))))

Fun. I like it.

OK, how can yo say these guys are "much" better live? You have never even seen the White Stripes live. I have seen them both. The Raconteurs are good but weak live....or perhaps it is just their songs.
Just my opinion...
Man, I was even unclear with my clarifying statement. I meant to say that the Raconteurs are much better live than on their album (opinion, of course). I have never seen the White Stripes live and can make no judgments or comparisons.
dreamy jack white....in that weird nightmare ghouly way....
I dig these guys. The lyrics are a little silly but the sound is tight. At leest the drummer can play!

Man, I love the music, but the lyrics distract from it too much... I don't give a crap about your rabbit, and what the hell is an intimate secretary? Leave the nonesense lyrics to the real master: Beck.
Ok, heard one of their other songs on here before and didn't care for it at all. This song I liked. Guess it goes to show, can't totally judge a group by 1 song.
The Racounteurs played on the Accelerator festival in Sweden earlier this summer.
Brendan Benson to the audience: "So, how may went to the Roskilde festival?" Lots of hands in the air. "Pretty fun, eh?"
Jack White steps up the mic: "How many went to the Pope's funeral?" The audience is completely silent. "Thought so. Let's get on with the show."
I guess it is clear who is the good cop/bad cop of the band.

"I've got a rabbit that likes to hop"?
PLEASE.
They should get together with the Decemberists,
give the rabbit to Miranda, and toss them both off that vast Veranda.

Sounds like when they put the lyrics down they were too high in someones basement with the giggles....anything goes at that point.
They way they look, they should be called the Raccoonteurs
I love that Bill just termed these lyrics as "impossibly dumb"

He's Jell'in.
im not sure check back later????? did his uncle cash in? or is he still with us
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Let the Bells Ring
The Raconteurs - Intimate Secretary
Led Zeppelin - Bron-y-aur Stomp
Patty Larkin - Anyway The Main Thing Is
Really loving this set, but damn Bill I need to get home! Sure wish my car picked up RP.
Lame lyrics, but the music rocks! Better with every listen.

is that like, "i don't know that much about the white stripes, but, i did stay at a holiday inn last night" ?
I don't know that much about the White Stripes, but I saw the Ranconteurs last month, and with over 30 years of concertgoing experience, I walked out of their show going, "Wow!."
so the bottomline is (IMHO)... see them if you can...

In Australia only they've called themselves "the Saboteurs" (apparently "the raconteurs" was already taken). So i guess that fits in with the somewhat sabotaged anecdotal lyrics..
The jury is still out.
"... got a rabbit that likes to hop... an uncle and he got shot.."
wtf?
So does this mean no more White Stripes?
Effortlessly great. The best neo-psychedelic since ?

That IS something. But what's it doing in the same song with "I've got a rabbit, it likes to hop"?
I agree with the comment below. I think this lacks the simple/fun grab the stripes have. That raw intensity, BUT I think this is obviously more layered and complex in a good way.

Skillful yes, amusing somewhat; just hasn't grabbed me yet like the stripes did. Still listening though...

They were great at Lollapalooza
