"Welcome back,"
Says the voice on the radio.
But I never left;
I was always right here.

In your hand all the colours
You thought were kings
At the turn of a card
Can just disappear.

I wish I could comfort you,
If love is our defense,
It's alright, I can comfort you,
If you let me, I could love you to death.

Need to see, need to say,
Need to be something beautiful.
I can't get today
Out of my mind.

Need to say, need to call,
Need to love someone beautiful.
A day like today
Has stained my eyes.

All I ever say,
And all I ever do,
Is just a message to you,
And all i ever play,
Are the cards you gave me,
It's just my version of the truth.

All I ever say,
And all I ever do,
Is just a message to you,
And all i ever play,
Are the cards you gave me,
It's just my version of the truth.

I wish I could comfort you,
If love is our defense,
It's alright, I can comfort you,
If you let me, I could love you to death.
If you let me, I could love you to death.

. . . the "Nottingham Jury" phrase you are so fond of has become tiresome!

Amen to that!

It's the artifice of singing a semitone or so flat that really grates on my ears. I'm sure yer man can sing, he's just choosing not to for effect. 2 and a mute from the Nottingham jury.

Those of us who disagree, salute your mute. As an aside, and honestly no offense intended, the "Nottingham Jury" phrase you are so fond of has become tiresome!

That's an mbira. And it sure is cool. Heard one live for the first time at a Harry Manx show a few weeks ago.

Yea, yea, I like it too!{#Yes}
I like the mbira (thanks listener below for ID!) better than the voice

I think too that a less complicated version of this song would be and upgrade...too much going on
I like!! 8
Great CD; very talented guy.
listening to this, I feel like the guy on the album cover.
Interesting sound this guy. I kind of like it.
That guitar part is straight from the Eagles' "Lyin' Eyes". That's just blatant plagiarism.
love the guitar hook in this song.
I'm glad Bill is still playing Tom McRae. Thanks, there aren't many musicians that are as meaningful to me as this fella. I know my tastes don't exactly match the rest of the world, but I can't figure out why he hasn't caught on.

Larks Tongues in Aspic? anyone?
I was really disappointed when I realised it wasn't King Crimsons "Larks Tongues in Aspic". The intro is almost Identical.

I hope the rest of the album is this good, because I bought it. Just haven't heard it yet.
how about now?

I cannot express how much I like Tom McRae ... fabulous! I saw him in concert with Tori Amos ... and he stood right up to the talent that followed him.
Lyric to title transition... nice.
Hey hey, first comment! The instrumentation on this is nice and relaxing. I don't think vocals were necessary.
