When your heart is black and broken
And you need a helping hand
When you're so much in love
You don't know just how much you can stand

When your questions go unanswered
And the silence is killing you
Take my hand baby I'm your man
I got loving enough for two

Ten storey love song
I built this thing for you
Who can take you higher than twin peak mountain blue?
Oh well, I built this thing for you
And I love you true

There's no sure-fire set solutions
No shortcut through the trees
No breaching the wall that they put there to keep you from me
As you're lying awake in this darkness
This everlasting night
Some day soon don't know where or when
You're gonna wake up and see the light

Ten storey love song
I built this thing for you
Who can take you higher than twin peak mountain blue?
Oh well, I built this thing for you
And I love you true

Ten storey love song
I built this thing for you
Who can take you higher than twin peak mountain blue?
Oh well, I built this thing for you
And I love you true

I'm hearing some Oasis here.

Stone Roses were 10 years before Oasis!  And Oasis aren't half the band that they were!

Does anyone else hear Russell Brand?  I thought maybe it was "Inside of You"!

totally

How in heaven's name did I miss out on Madchester? Were the bands a college radio phenomenon in the States? So glad Bill has opened my ears to Stone Roses in particular!

They got some airplay, but not a ton. My friends and I stumbled across this CD not long after it came out, after hearing "Love Spreads" somewhere. I actually didn't hear The Stone Roses' first release until much later.

What does it say about me when I confess to the fact that I expected this song to be about jumping off a ten storey building?

Apart from my not knowing The Stone Roses prior to listening to this song here on RP?

The Byrds?
It's a nice song.
Hey, great choice! Just what was needed on a Friday afternoon!
Wish I could find a local FM-station that plays Stone Roses just once a year...

I know (ie it sounds like Oasis borrowed from SR).
There you go.
This tune expresses a nice sentiment in a fairly eloquent manner. Not quite an art song, but as a pop tune, it works.

In my book, these and most first-album Stone Roses songs are top of the heap at 10. And I am pretty picky. But obviously this is subjective and showing what the overall ratings are doesn't "prove" anything. Why argue with people when it's subjective? I really don't get that.
That's just what some people do for fun. Aesthetics is a branch of philosophy and some people's lives are consumed by philosophical pursuits. Other people just like to whine.

I like these guys but they have better songs than this one.
Man, I wish these guys hadn't gotten so big headed after their 1st album masterpiece. They could've had at least a few more great albums in them. In retrospect I think this album is better than when I first heard it. It's not the originality of the 1st but still solid I think.

Their last great song...
Yup :( If only someone had got their asses into gear instead of allowing them to go AWOL after the first album.

I agree with that. This seems to flow better from their first album.

Very cool and unexpected music. Love RP!
Awesome!
Too cool. I always thought more from this album belonged on RP. Glad it's finally here.
