I this doesn't help you get up offa that thing, then you got a problem.

Get up offa that thing,
And dance 'till you feel better.
Aristotle, Confucius, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Bob Ross, Dr. Phil, King David, and Jesus himself never gave better advice for mental health.

Any song that starts off "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW!!!" gets a +1 immediately, Mr. Brown of course is already a 10, so the volume at least goes +1 to 11.
LLRP!!
Groove is in the heart!

This is great!  I love James Brown...so amazingly musically innovative—pure entertainment!
I saw him do a live show in Oakland, CA years ago in the 90's.  That was one of the best concerts I have ever seen.  This coming from someone who has seen literally hundreds of concerts.  The auditorium had reserved seats on the floor with a large space between the stage and the first row.  Within the first couple songs, people began standing up and dancing at their seats.  A few songs later, people started moving into the open floor area in front of the stage to dance.  It didn't take long after that before hundreds of people filled the floor in what felt like a giant house party with James Brown playing live right behind us.  Security tried at first to control things but gave up and just let everyone have their fun.  What an experience to remember.  Thanks James Brown for giving me one of the most memorable experiences of my life!   {#Heartkiss}

Fabulous funk fun.
Plus or minus that it's way light in the lyrics department.
JB or Archie Bell and the Drells had a groove thing going with the other, it would seem.

My fave James Brown song. This and funky drummer. I heard JB was such a perfectionist, he would penalize his players on stage for messing up. He'd flash his hands at the instrumentalist that mucked up, with each hand flash being a 5 dollar deduction on his paycheck. Don't know why I brought that up, kind of a buzzkill. Anyway, he performs this song with the Muppets, and Monster absolutley kills it on the drums.

Were any of the Muppets fined?

Good God, jump back, gonna kiss myself!

THIS is that thing.
I gotta go too, James.

Yeah, me too - I've wondered about that ever since I first heard it at the school disco ages ago. Suggestions welcome as to what "that thing" is...

Oh, good Gawd!
You want to know where Prince got his moves? Check out some old footage of J.B. and the Famous Flames.

R.I.P. Master James!
Get down! get back up again!
His descent into madness and death is largely due to his late introduction to "Colombian marching powder"....shame as the man was a bloody genius

my sister saw James years ago. He really does fling himeself to the ground from exhaustion. The Flames come over and stand over him, fanning him till he can get up and go on. Work Out!
As he was about to "collapse" he'd have his stage managers come out and put a "king's" cape on him and lead him offstage. About 4/5ths of the way off stage, he'd THROW off the cape and come back to the microphone. This would happen several times, which added to that "hardest working man in show business" title....

Classic. That opening yell is one of the most over-sampled moments in pop music history.
Agreed, just like Kraftwork stuff...funny that the hip-hop scene doesn't know its a bunch of German geeks who they've sampled...lol speaking of which, Kraftwerk would be nice to hear sometime somehow....

Very nice afternoon pick me up Bill! And I really needed it today, thanks :)

Nice energy, but horribly repetitive.

That's backwards labeled!
Hmmm..., not so sure about that...
I could listen to this for hours.

Hadn't thought of it until heard a new article about his music, and realized that what they were saying was accurate: James Brown's music was truly African. Listen to it compared to American "soul" and it's not as closely related as it is to the traditional African music with its clean repetition and horn stabs. Once I heard that, it sounds completely different to me.
James Brown influenced African Music more than the other way around.
Absolute 10
The one thing that can solve most of our problems is dancing -James Brown
