I think this might be their best song, But it seems quite unknown: Not a single and only 16k views at Youtube. I would never have heard it if it wasn't for RP.
This is a really lovely song. Initially I was going to give a 7 but the low rating surprised me so I upped to to an 8 to start shifting the average.
I'm not a DMB fan. But I bumped this up one notch to an 8 today.
I always thought of Dave Matthews as a tighter, more disciplined Grateful Dead. This song is a perfect example: just as long as it needs to be.

Dave has certainly written some great songs, seems to have a good sense of humor, and I´ve heard he is a regular nice guy. Saw DMB in concert a few times many years ago, and definitely enjoyed it - good energy and lots of groove. FWIW...

This is a god song but my main problem with this band is that after a while songs get "noisy", becoming an instrumental cacophony akin to a murder of crows in the afternoon, rather than a harmonious unit... and don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed Robert Fripp, Frank Zappa and even Edgar Varese so I'm not against disonance... Anyway, my two cents in case anybody cares

His voice irritates me. However, he can write a song for sure.
In general I’m not a big DMB fan but this song get all the feels.

Ok, one of the few DMB songs (that I have heard) that does not go off on some tangent. I like his music until he goes off exploring. He starts a song, gets his groove going with a verse and a chorus, but then goes off on some experiment. Which is OK...for awhile, until he goes off on another experiment. In the meantime, I sit back waiting for him to come back to the original groove, which was quite good. I sit unsated. A man with no groove...

DMB is all groove. I will not speak for all of their songs but, the ones that I know (and I know many), always return to the original groove. I submit that you may have been tuning out early as is your right, but that your assertion is incorrect.

In an interview I heard with the great Gavin Harrison, he says that it's the drummer's job to make keeping time in the band interesting. Carter Beauford is from that school, for sure. He is locked in with Dave's interesting approach to song writing and playing.

I just might have to go see the DMB digging a ditch when they hit Vancouver on September 1st. Been a very long time since they have played here.

Just saw him in Toronto on Saturday with my two adult daughters. Played for three hours, peddle to the metal. High energy. A man of few words between songs, though. His set was a bit disappointing, actually. Ignored many of the classics. I know he was promoting the new CD. His encore tended to kill all the excitement, I felt. Also, having seen him for the first time, I noticed how each song was about 12 min. long. Solos from his supporting cast over and over. Amazing show, no doubt. But ... maybe I was hoping for more.
I always want to dislike DMB more than I actually do. The band's got chops — I think that's what keeps winning me over.

I couldn't agree more with these sentiments. Being a big DMB fan it has been difficult to attend shows in the past due to the antics of the "fans". However, the knuckle-headed frat-boy jackasses that attended DMB shows in the early aughts have been forced to grow up, get jobs, and become reasonably decent productive citizens. You might find the crowd more palatable and easy to get along with now... and the shows are as good as ever.
they should consider playing something live ie(dancing nancies) at redrock.

I discovered DMB when I was working in Boston in 1997 and very much enjoyed it then. On returning to Australia I was disappointed not to hear his stuff on Aussie radio.

feeling a bit ill suddenlyI caught a live recording on Palladia this week (at Piedmont - 2007 I think) and I have to say the drummer has the most infectious smile. Just watching him made me want to be there. Of course I am biased - I saw them at Red Rocks in 95, third row. How could you not like them?

Yes, it is basically the Lillywhite Sessions, with some different or enhanced arrangements. JTR, a great song that they did live for awhile, and a few others did not end up on Busted Stuff. I'd add that I liked the version of Digging a Ditch better on the Lillywhites. The sax/violin part was more prominent and lilting.

Not really digging his digging. Only the nice sax saves this from a Ho-Hum rating by the Nottingham jury, as yer man's voice is soporific. I wonder if he's a hypnotist in his day job?
