Sheryl Crow — White Room (w/ Eric Clapton)
In the white room with black curtains near the station.
Blackroof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings.
Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes.
Dawnlight smiles on you leaving, my contentment.
I'll wait in this place where the sun never shines;
Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves.
You said no strings could secure you at the station.
Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows.
I walked into such a sad time at the station.
As I walked out, felt my own need just beginning.
I'll wait in the queue when the trains come back;
Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves.
At the party she was kindness in the hard crowd.
Consolation for the old wound now forgotten.
Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes.
She's just dressing, goodbye windows, tired starlings.
I'll sleep in this place with the lonely crowd;
Lie in the dark where the shadows run from themselves.

I graduated from high school in 1970. So I remember this when it first came out. I think this is an exellent cover. I like the contrast of the two voices. :sunny.gif:
Well, I say this song rocks the house. Gotta love the drums, sounds alot like Ginger Baker. Two thumbs up!

Triple that sentiment - what's the deal - RP using too much bandwidth and they are trying to get people to change the channel lately (exp. today)?
Oh - and Clapton should be ashamed of himself anyway for the last 20 years of Phil Collins Muzak poop.
I forgot how bad Sheryl Crow sounds, yuck. Stick with the original please.
Clapton ya no es Dios
Sheryl (sings like a) Crow ruins an all time classic.
What was Clapton thinking?

Hey ! She's a hottie...he is God afterall...they shagged...it makes utter SENSE.
Damn good take as well !
It was a solid 8 till Crow started singing
It's not that she's a bad singer, it's just that she has no place on a Cream track.
Sheryl's voice sounds better than it usually does. but still not very good.

Uh, What he said.......
Yeah! I'm rockin out here! The guitar work in this version is not as good (not nearly) as the original, but I really like the way Cheryl Crow sings in this song.

THIS VERSION ROCKS--makes me wish I was there!

No.

The Cream....live! There are few things that make me jealous in the world, but you got me with this one. You have to go thru more than two years of comments to find a fleeting reference to the voice in the band, Jack Bruce. I like Eric's guitar work on this cover, but it sports two pretty mundane voices.
Hope you got tickets to the Albert Hall Cream shows going on this week. I read New York Time's review this a.m. on the first show. They liked it, but weren't knocked out!

Stop me if you've heard this one before, but I think poor Eric Clapton's been eating crow.
But is she enjoying it?
I'm not offended by this version, go EC.....
I love that Hammond at the end too...........
I think Sheryl said it best in The Difficult Kind:
"If anyone should know...how to let it slide"
Did y'all know that Cream is playing a series of reunion concerts at Albert Hall in London, next month? The real deal with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker joining Clapton. I think they are doing like four shows or something.
Wish I was going!
Hey, if you have to do a duet and choose between being between a (kid) Rock and a Hard Place...
...wouldn't you pick god?

Not exactly, but you can go buy "Wheels of Fire" by Cream, where the song first appeared and Jack Bruce does the other vocal.
Is there a way to edit this song so that you can't hear Sheryl? Just wondering.... Why does Eric let himself be subjected to this bastardization of his music? Can't be for the "artistic" value. This song was just fine in it's original form.

OMG, this is the hardest I've laughed this year.
I'm not ready to rate this song yet, but it might make a 4. Too bad, considering the talent involved.
She, she, she! Who cares! I mean, Crow's okay here--and Clapton's screaming on that there guitar.
Fine by me. . . .
It used to be that I got really stoked every time I recognized the intro to this song. Since I've heard this version however I've become more apprehensive since it may as well be _this_ version. What were they thinking? I mean it's fine to do it live, but why did they have to put out a recording of it? I've got nothing against Crow btw, I think she's cool...
DAMMIT!!! DAMMIT!!! DAMMIT!!!
Why does this kind of thing happen? Won't some body think of the children? I've tried to like her but I just don't. I can't stand her and Clapton is one of my favorites but this is...this is...just...AAAAAAAUUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The worst part is that I have to admit that it's not her fault this time. Oh Eric. Say it aint so.
The best thing to come out of this whole mess is the following comment.

you haters need to give sheryl a fair shake. many musicians, myself included, find both her songwriting and her performance quite enjoyable.
she is not just a bimbo.
that said, this concert is unfortunately not a good example of that. she's clearly not in her best form on this record.
but she still rocks in my book.
Yup. Well put. Saw her at Austin City Limits Festival and she rocked the joint. She's paid her dues in my book. And she's a great presence following the path paved by Chrissy Hind. The chick can rock.

Mm, doesn't surprise me that much. Those folks are her old heroes just as well, so she may just be a "little" tensed!

I'd never heard this before, I think it is a nice version.
Did anyone see the guitar festival on National Public Television this past weekend?

This definitely works for me...Sheryl at one of her finest moments!
Why? I love 'em both, but this is...it's....why?

oh my god! the free internet radio station has sold out! *gasp* next thing you know it'll have ClearChannel ads.
wait...what's that, you say? it's still free? it still plays great music regardless of whether it's been on the radio before, and regardless of the whining of its listeners about how anyone who likes Artist X must be an insensate moron?
shocking!

Why would Eric Clapton agree to do this??
Because he knows that S.C. rocks!!
Worst of both worlds. Bad sound moreover.
Often Sheryl Crow's voice annoys me, but it doesn't in this song. I really dig it.

I must say this version is full of vim and vinegar.

Still sounds even though it's a million years later.
And hey a lot of those other posters like it to.
The solo just came on. ......... awsome ..

Few people know it, but this song is actually about a Washington\'s Day Sale at JC Pennys.

A Knee Slapper!
wow listen to him growl out the lyrics :D
cover?! Who do you think the guitarist was in Cream? Ginger Baker? The drumer was near spaektakular in this version but the guitar solo at the end said \"I\'m everything I was and more\". BTW Eric Clapton both played the guitar on this didee and in Cream.

That depends on who's buyin. I like this cover, if only because ol' slow hand still got it.
How Clapton ever got wrapped up with Cheryl Crow is beyond me. Sure, Clapton is singing but his mind is saying "why am I up here on stage with this bimbo?" She hasn't earned the right!
As a cover goes, this is pretty nice. Better guitar solo than the original version. The 5/4 tempo in the chorus is just brilliant. But\'s that\'s a comment for the song and not the cover
p.s. LBRC WRITING IN ALL CAPS FEELS LIKE YOU ARE SHOUTING AT EVERYONE
Eloquently put, my sacreligious friend. Execrable. Diabolical. Totally repugnant.

P.S. Eric: Dude, I didn't realize you were that far behind on the mortgage. I'll go buy your last couple CDs now.
Yuck. Sheryl Crow is just totally wrong. This version sounds exactly like the Cream version, except the singing is wrong. Just wrong. Gosh, I don\'t even like Eric\'s singing in this one.
this is simply terrible...
Didn\'t SC write \"My favorite mistake\" about/for EC? They were a couple, weren\'t they? If I ever was/will become someone\'s mistake, I\'d like to be her favorite one!

Eric Clapton? Good god, I would have sworn I only heard Chrissie Hynde.
I thought I hated Sheryl Crow... You've got me real confused now.
Didn\'t think I\'d like that...but I did. A very solid and enjoyable version of that song.
I\'ve yet to hear a version of this I did not like. I usually
subscribe to the philosophy on not being too critical of folks. Clapton\'s voice fits the genre of music just as Rod Stewart and Joe Cocker fit theirs.
As a musical suggestion, just to get a message across, how about playing Chapin\'s \"Mr. Tanner\" or \"The Vultures\" by
Renaissance.
Just my opinion, but some folks seem to be a bit overly critical of the relative prowess of the artists.
Most of the music here is not intended for the Metropolitan Opera ;o). Enjoy it if you like it, leave it alone if you don\'t. But you are entitled to express your opinions as are
we all.
I guess that\'s a semi rant ...
Jack and Ginger where are you?! Ok, that was then and this is now. A great update and though I sometimes criticize Clapton, I just shouted for joy when he did the solo.
Most of my life, White Room's been one of my favourites and I can hardly be objective. Thought of all the versions that came before, the history behind it and Keith, probably enjoying it, backstage ;)
i love this version, even better than the original -- sheryl crow compliments clapton perfectly
by the way, bill, awesome set so far!
I don\'t much care for SC (she seems to think especially highly of herself) but this is a pretty powerful song. And Clapton is still god as far as I\'m concerned!
Clapton should just play and keep his mouth shut.
There was a reason he wasnt doing the singing on this song with Cream
Excellent \'um Cover? Powerful. Sheryl compliments Eric nicely here.
