it doesn't look like a tumbleweed... more like grape vines on steriods (it can grow up to 2 feet a day)

only 3 things that can get rid of it
1. bulldozer
2. a team of goats
3. Roundup Kudzu killer

as a child (growing up in Georgia) I used to look out the car window at all the trees covered in a blanket of kudzu... I always imagined that the trees were giant monsters standing very still waiting for us to past by

{#Clap}{#Wink} Love that notion of trees as giant monsters. You mention goats chewing on kudzu; can cows handle it as well? From all I've read on kudzu, it sounds like a scourge of the South. You'd think there'd be a way to make use of it, perhaps as a livestock feed crop or source of biomass energy.
There's a live version of this on that recent IRS double-disc compilation that's pretty cool. Stipe gives a shout-out during the song to someone named Ingrid. Anybody know who Ingrid is?
Temazo!!!
WOW....
REM at their best...IRS time for them was magic. Wonderful.
The utter dreck-ness of this offering stands in stark contrast to the Beatles tune it follows.
Many imitators over the years, but nobody's done it better. What a catchy tune!
Such a fun, bouncy little tune.
Fantastic song from a superb album.
Bought this CD (oops, cassette) because Rolling Stone labeled it Album of the Year for 1983. And in 1983-84, I was a freshman in high school. Yeah, early REM might have shaped me a bit.
WHEW! This is much better...
This whole album is perfect. Thanks for playing this.

Letterman had them back to do a second "untitled" song later too. The song was later titled So. Central Rain. Great stuff

I've always liked this song. It's one of those that almost annoys with its ability to get stuck in your head for hours. I don't think I've ever liked it better than hearing it right after that atrocious Cry Cry Cry version of "Fall on Me" though.

I always thought this track should get more airplay. Good stuff!

Just one more note. don't know much about the album, but kudzu is also called "the vine that ate the south." invasive exotic species that's covering millions of acres and throwing all sorts of natural systems outta wack because it's so aggresive. Able to smoother whole forests.
Interesting link about kudzu: https://www.cptr.ua.edu/kudzu/

No.... Take a recess marley baaaaaaking boy.
gorgeous
Man, Murmer never-ever-ever grows old on me. What a terrific piece of work. As for kudzu, it grows 1 foot per day. You can watch it grow under an el-cheapo microscope. Not that you'd want to ;-)
:nodhead: ;)

Other album trivia? Murmur is apparently one of the seven easiest words to say in the english language; that had something to do with stipe chosing it as a title.

Great way to start the day! REM is a band where at any given moment I would have a different answer to the question "What is your favorite REM album?" Some days it's MURMUR, others it RECKONING, or DOCUMENT, or AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE, but more often than not it's LIFE'S RICH PAGEANT. Their new stuff is tolerable, but compared to stuff like this, no contest.
..."Take Ex-Lax"...?

Wow, hard to believe this record is 20 years old! Loved it then, love it now. You didn't have to understand the words on those early albums (although this was one of the few you could understand), those songs moved you by the spirit of the music alone.

Bouncy. Fun.
Great song from the time when REM was everybody's favorite garage band.
take oasis! Beautifully incomprehensible.
