She gets the sun in the daytime
Perfume in the dusk
And she come out in the night time
With the honeysuckle musk
Because she smells like a rose
And she tastes just like a peach
She got me walking where the wildlife goes
I'd do anything to reach her
And she was made in heaven
Heaven's in the world
Oh she was made in heaven
Heaven's in the world
Is this just expresso love
You know I'm crazy for the girl
Just a-crazy for the girl
Yeah she call me just to talk
Well she's my lover she's a friend of mine
Says hey mister d'you wanna take a walk
In the wild west end sometime
And I get trouble with my breathing
When she says boys don't know anything
But I know what I want (I want 'o tell you something)
Yes I want everything
Cos she was made in heaven
And heaven's in the world
Oh she was made in heaven
Yes heaven's in the world
Is this just expresso love
See I'm crazy for the girl
Just a-crazy for the girl
Yeah you know I feel so good cos I feel so good
And I feel so good cos it feels so right
I was made to go with my girl
Just like a saxophone was made to go with the night
Take it take it
She can raise one eyebrow
Put her hand on my hip
And I close one eye now
Sweat on her lip oh
Oh and I surrender to the fever
And I surrender to the will of the night
She love me so tender I got to believe her
Love? Huh! Expresso love's alright
Cos she was made in heaven
Heaven's in the world
Oh she was made in heaven
Heaven's in the world
Is this expresso love
You know I'm crazy for the girl
Just a-crazy for the girl
My my my my
No well I don't want no sugar in it
No thank you very very very
All wired up on it all fired up on it
Expresso touch
Hey maestro expresso now
Hey maestro she said expresso now
It's just another one just like the other one
It's just another one just like the other other one
Oh hey maestro expresso now
I say hey maestro expresso now
Just like the other one
What's always amazed me about this album is how the addition of another musician, in this case the inestimable Roy Bittan on piano, actually created more room for Knopfler's guitar wizardry.
I Agree!
Favorite DS album
mine, too.
where's the repeat button?

I was just thinking; “what fabulous interplay between the piano and Knopfler!!”
just bumped this Outstanding track 8–>9.
I don’t reach for it very often, but wow when I hear that intro I stay and groove when it’s on.
You talked me into it.

=> From 9 to 10, Maestro !
If enough people make the same mistake it becomes the new correct. Flammable and inflammable mean the same thing and no one cares anymore.
And as much as I hate it, Irregardless was included in the dictionary for that exact reason.

I used to get worked up about incorrect use of language but eventually realized that it doesn't matter one bit. Language is nothing more than a way to communicate. As long as we all understand each other, it's of no consequence if we don't get spelins or gramer perfect. The more important debate is whether we should standardize on a single language so that all the countries of the world understand each other better. There are plenty of other outlets to define our cultural identity. English might be a good choice? But I suspect there might be some resistance to such a suggestion...
A universal language is great conceptually, but it opens all sorts of trouble.
By my reckoning there are currently three universal languages: Math, Music (also very mathematical) and dance, which really requires music. HOORAY Science!
I love the use of Chinese Peppered in to the Joss Whedon show/film Firefly/Serenity. it shows that even in the far future the Chinese have significant cultural impact.
The question now should be do you have your kids take Mandarin or Cantonese in school?

In France it is pronounced as expresso. French is a latin language. The idea that you are not allowed to use/adapt something because your own culture did not develop it is pretty dumb.

Just for a bit of fun... maybe this song was the design inspiration for the Plymouth Expresso concept car previewed in 1994 but never made it into production. "It seemed like a good idea at the time" they said. You can be the judge of that...

I think 'expresso' used here is Italian, as in driving down the 'expresso' (and loving it)!
As a Seattleite, it frustrated the HECK out of me that so many people were going to EXPRESSO stands and not ESPRESSO (i.e. Latin for 'pressed out coffee' ...chalk up another cultural appropriation by us Americans....and sadly the phrase Expresso has begun gaining steam (lol) b/c of our damn high quantity of espresso stands and the idea of quick service....damnit!! Long Live RP!!

What he said.
This tune and Solid Rock and especially Tunnel of Love are supreme. 33+ years on already? Holy shit.
Also Industrial Disease. We need Telegraph Road here on RP.
Totally Agree, would be really great to here Telegraph Road !

Something brilliant.
Maybe "Les Boys" is a little song compared to the others in this album but it doesn't matter!
God I loved this band!!!!!!ð
"Save my soul......Expresso!"
Understood, and I second that opinion!
Just put the headphones on myself !
Well, frell me dead - I just remembered I have headphones and a way to plug them into my computer! Geez. *headbonk* Cranked it up, and I'm going for 5,000 words tonight, and another 5,000 tomorrow (NaNoWriMo and I am SO far behind...)
Thanks, cohifi!
Yes, I remember hearing these guys when it first aired. In my high school art class(where we got to listen to the radio!!) and Sultans of Swing came on and nearly everyone stopped and looked at each other like- wow! NOthing like it ever before.
Totally original and like-able. Dire Straits was the buzz.
I really like early Dire Straits, but not sure I'd call it "nothing like anything before".
JJ Cale + Little Feat x Ry Cooder x Bob Dylan + Bruce = Sultans of Swing, surely?
I know - really! It should have been no more than 15 minutes.
This song is soooo good for the ears...
Just put the headphones on myself !
MY kidding?
I must say, you do have a lovely kidding! Mine's not so nice...
Your kidding!
MY kidding?
I beg to differ - I'm stuck in MUSIC. My list of favorites has music from all genrés and generations, from Louis Armstrong to some lovely indie artists.
And it's "you're," as in "you are," not "your" as in showing possession. Now, run along and find someone else on whom to waste your snarky little comments.
Your kidding!
That's because he is the man.
Looking at your list of favorites I see your stuck in the 70s. Hard to argue with a mind that's not open to new ideas.

Snap!
So many memories - I'm welling up now
Nice to hear it rolled out now and again.
Thanks Bill!

seems like an unrelated point since neither artist can be honestly considered a '70's artist' ... I would have to agree that a fan of Dylan's performances should be much more tolerent of 'bad' voices
Thank You, BIIIIILL!
Hypocrite. You've given Bob Dylan solid "9" marks, and he can't sing, either, and Knopfler plays circles around him on the guitar.
Still, I agree, to a point - Knopfler has a rather one-dimensional voice, but I think it's sexy - as opposed to Dylan's gravelly, off-key vocals which more often than not miss the mark. And Knopfler has written a soundtrack or two (check out "Local Hero" - there are some absolutely ethereal instrumentals on that CD, and the actual movie is a delight, too.)
But let's not get into a pissing contest. Singing is not the only thing that makes a song good, right?

Uhm, Single Handed Sailor, Lady Writer, Once Upon A Time In The West and even Follow Me Home are regularly played here....
Luckily....
I can believe it. Many people today wouldn't know a great band if it jumped out of their crappy cell/Pods and kicked them in their superficial noggins.
Spoken like a person who has changed their sox in 30-years. It's an amazing coincidence that the very best music the world has ever seen just happen to occur when you were a teen. And nothing good has been created since.

Expresso love — dark, strong, and no sugar in it!
Interestingly he sings quite well now! But yeah, not such a good singer in the Dire Straits days, but man the songs are awesome. :)
I have to agree. His playing's not too bad either.
AMAZING!
PS: Do not forget: that was 30 (!!!!!!!!!!!!) years back!!!
can that be really true....?
Yea I can't go 2 hours without hearing someone talk about the Dire Straits. Kids these days just can't get enough DS...
Not.
Cool! A positive comment from crockydile...I like it.
Agree!
Ian
Didn't know that! Loved this song for sooooo long, too! Guess I'll have to listen to the album again with a fresh ear.

Oop. Nope. Different song.
I'm pretty sure Adams rooked the riff from Knopfler.
The live version of this song from "Alchemy" really rocks!
but man, he can play
A whole latte love.
Pros: Could write another 100 songs just as good as this one.
Cons: He has.
Ah, so you've been married... ;^P
Hello, PG! Been a while!
