City girls just seem to find out early
How to open doors with just a smile
A rich old man
And she won't have to worry
She'll dress up all in lace and go in style

Late at night a big old house gets lonely
I guess every form of refuge has its price
And it breaks her heart to think her love is only
Given to a man with hands as cold as ice

So she tells him she must go out for the evening
To comfort an old friend who's feelin' down
But he knows where she's goin' as she's leavin'
She is headed for the cheatin' side of town

You can't hide your lyin' eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide your lyin eyes

On the other side of town a boy is waiting
With fiery eyes and dreams no one could steal
She drives on through the night anticipating
'Cause he makes her feel the way she used to feel

She rushes to his arms; they fall together
She whispers that it's only for awhile
She swears that soon she'll be comin' back forever
She pulls away and leaves him with a smile

You can't hide your lyin' eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't now way to hide your lyin' eyes

She gets up and pours herself a strong one,
And stares out at the stars up in the sky.
Another night, it's gonna be a long one.
She draws the shade and hangs her head to cry.

She wonders how it ever got this crazy.
She thinks about a boy she knew in school.
Did she get tired or did she just get lazy?
She's so far gone she feels just like a fool.

My oh my, you sure know how to arrange things.
You set it up so well, so carefully.
Ain't it funny how your new life didn't change things?
You're still the same old girl you used to be.

You can't hide your lyin' eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes
There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes
Honey, you can't hide your lyin' eyes

A long song for general airplay in 1975 but it got it, deservedly.

Just a perfectly crafted and perfectly executed story song.

My daughter and I have different takes on this song:  I am much more judgmental about the girl in the song, and she is more sympathetic.  It was a good talk, with bias a part of it, as we disagreed on songwriters' perspective, too, but both appreciate the song and lyrics making us think and feel.  But moral of the story is marry for love.

When you posted that there was just one "plays in last 30 days" total, and it was for the Main Mix only (accurate, BTW).

There are now totals for all mixes, including Mellow, which is what you must have been listening to.

I need a tutorial on how RP works.  If you pause a song and come back to it later, you are then not listening to live plays.   Is there a way to listen live on RP?  And I often hear a song twice in a day, or maybe twice in just a few days, which also makes me wonder about how this works.
I'm making a prediction that this one will be played in the Main Mix within the next 6 months, really around New Year 2023.
Long Live RP!!

@BillG it is just “Eagles”, not “The” Eagles.

And here's the correct Wiki article:

Good catch!
@BillG it is just “Eagles”, not “The” Eagles.
Oh my goodness. The audacity of putting this into the mix! Perhaps to attract some of the young'ens?! Well, no need to convince us lifers of the quality of this ditty, who could hear this every day for years if they tuned into the right station. How many marriages either died or survived from the influence of this tail of deception? Archetypal story of true love, of maturing, and of sadness. Thanks for the memory, Bill.

I'm beginning to think that the phrase "Plays (last 30 days):" is always a lie.
This is the second play for this tune in the past WEEK!
C'mon, Bill G., get a little honest!

(I still like this song, but no one asked me, did they?)

Don Henly and the Eagles are vested in that part of me that remembers the golden years. Glenn Fry was a strong part of this group
