Grab your heart we need to leave
There's no time to cry or grieve
For the fallen family tree

Rise above the flooding plain
Crouching low to duck the flame
Generations against the grain
Up in smoke and down the drain

If the fire, if the flood
Burns the tree and thins the blood
If your tears don't want to dry
I can help you cry
Through the night
Through the night and day
I can't take your pain away
But I can help you cry

We'll cut the branch from this tree
Carve a place for you and me
A wooden seat that we can string
From a branch where we can swing

We'll take this block of wood
Carve it down and sand it good
When finished it will be
A souvenir of the family tree

And if the fire, if the flood
Burns the tree and thins the blood
If your tears don't wanna dry

I can help you cry
Through the night
Through the night and day
I can't take your pain away
But I can help you cry
Through the night
Through the night and day
I can't take your pain away
I can try but

God help me please
Come save the family tree
My friends I broke them all
When falling off the wall

In the ash I found an ember
Something warm to help remember
A block of wood that used to be
A strong tall family tree

A strong tall family tree
Blowing in the breeze

Cry through the night
Through the night and day
I can't take your pain away
But I can help you cry
Through the night
Through the night and day
I can't take your pain away
But I can help you cry

I love Carbon Leaf! I think their songs are genuine and heartfelt. To each his own.

Ha ha, you're old enough to remember what a carbon leaf is. Wait I'm old enough to remember using those as well.
Really love these guys. Have seen them live several times and always leave so very impressed by their energy. Love this song as well. It's on permanent rotation in my car and lots of people have asked me who it is, and said that they really like it. I have no idea where some of these folks are coming from on this board with comments like "trite and contrived". Are you kidding? It's uplifting and brings back great memories of loved ones who shaped my life and the lives of others. Music does different things for different people, I guess. Me? I really like Carbon Leaf and think they're like a breath of fresh air. Check out "The War Was in Color". Dave
I saw Carbon Leaf for the first time recently on a music cruise. They were awesome live. I got to see them play a couple shows. Good band energy. Passionate. If you like their music even a little you must see them.

Me too.
The whole album is delightfully corny :o). Just ignore the lyrics if that bothers you :oP.
trite, contrived and appallingly boring.
Seam contrived ?? Well maybe they sew them that way.

The words are corny. Nice thought, but it comes out corny. The music and singing are just plain old mediocre.

LMAO. Well, I dunno about that, but that was definitely one of the clunkiest guitar solos I've heard in a while.
Greetings, They are gaining their own sound, in my opinion, and they are sounding better as they go! Neil
