We're on a roll
We crack and roll in the bar rooms
It's a glorious calling
If you've got nothing much to lose

And you can take it further still
That's all you really want to
Now you will, you will

So what you waiting for?
There's nothing waiting for you here no more

(Chorus)
If you go
It will be hard to come back
If you go
It will be hard
Hard to come back
It's hard to come back
It's hard to come back, you know
It's hard to come back

Again

(Escudo
Escudo requisar)

This ain't your house
This ain't your name on the front door
She ain't your true love
You ain't the one you were before

And it will never be enough for you
To go about doing what you used to do
You gonna need something more
You best be headed for the door

(Chorus)

It will be hard to come back
it will be hard you know
Etc.

This discussion is lame. Obviously, they're singing 'securo de pessar'. "Pessar" being a widely used slang in latino countries for 'pesario' = the pessary in english. Ergo: "secure on the pessary". An ironic referense to the rather high risk if using a pessary as contraceptive method, and the indeed "hard to come back" nature of things, if failing.

The beginning of this song sounds to me like they've taken 'Harmony in My Head' by the Buzzcocks and just played it slower. It sounds remarkably similar.

Wow - fredriley, we agree! I think I might drop dead from the shock. (Kidding.)  Cool that we agree, though. Yes, Madrugada is "basic rock," but there's just something so compelling about the vocals and the interplay among the instrumentals and the vocals. I really love this band. I'd never heard them before, until I came to RP.

I'm giving them a 9, in concurrence with the Nottingham jury. {#Bounce}

(May 04, 2010 - 17:07) Bill, I gotta ask:  Is this guy your long lost cousin or what?  Yeah, he's got a very distinctive voice, as do you, but seriously, the music isn't all that...

Madrugada - Hard To Come Back
(May 15, 2010 - 21:33) Sorry, I think that this band is totally over-rated.  The music itself is pretty basic rock & roll.  It could be almost anybody (or a cover band) from the late '70's and the lyrics are almost trite, a typical problem for a foreign language band.  I am really starting to resent the "love-fest" here on RP for Madrugada...  Granted, I fell hard for "Majesty", the live version, and got sucked into the fanfare, but the other songs being played here just don't come close (and for that matter, even "Majesty" has lost its luster after being totally over-played here on RP.)  Sorry Bill, but I'm still wondering if this dude isn't your long lost cousin??  I don't get it, you usually have great taste, but this band doesn't reflect that.

So, you apparently don't care for this band or you "don't get it" as you stated.  However, don't you think it's a little presumptuous to suggest that those who do like this band or song (a substantial majority of the voting listeners) do not have good taste?

Cracking stuff, but so reminiscent of Nick Cave that I had to check that it wasn't him, so maybe abit of plagiarism going on?

Okay, first:  I LIKE basic rock & roll!   I'ma guess that you're living in a place that has EVERYTHING in music, so you can pick and choose, right down to the song, what works for you. Keep in mind that Bill only plays what's uploaded. If you have better stuff, upload it! Bring it on, we'll listen, and chances are, it'll end up here so you can post happypeppy reviews and those of us lesser people can yay or boo your choices.  Me?  I have a bunch of stuff I'd love to upload, but my computer is old, and things just don't work. And, I live in a cow-town in northeast Nevada (uh, yeah - Nevada really IS a state, and Mexico is not.) So - I embrace a lot of the music played here at RP, because it's the ONLY place I'll ever get to hear it.

Second: I really like Madrugada. Give me time to get tired of it. I haven't even really listened to the lyrics - I'm still in that greedy/hungry first saturation phase of most of this music.  And maybe I'll eventually find the lyrics trite, but as you put it, "a typical problem for a foreign language band." Honestly, I never got that from what I've heard so far. So, I repeat myself - if you have better stuff, bring it on! New music is always a wonderful addition. I would add stuff, if I could. I might have to enlist someone to upload the things I think would fit.

Meanwhile, I'ma just close my eyes and dance.{#Dancingbanana}
Thank you!

Wouldn't you like to be in your young twenties.  You and friends have rented a bar with dance floor that houses up to 300 ticket-paying fans.    Your close friends and screened ticket payers come to see Madrugada rock out numbers like this one in a private intimate concert.

Yes, the live version of Majesty is very moving and intense, and certainly woke me up to the quality of Madrugada. We're on a roll here, right enough, the second 9 on the trot. Sadly the lead guitarist of Madrugada died in 2007 from a drug overdose (see Wikipedia) and I'm not sure if the band is going to continue - the official website doesn't have any up to date news.

Hmm. I'd not thought of Madrugada as a Goth band before now - not much in the way of existential angst, religious imagery, or thanatos. I'm happy to be proved wrong, mind, being a closet Goth myself. This song just keeps getting better and better for me, and may reach the rarefied heights of 10 at some point in the near future.
The guitar always reminds me of 'Southern Girl' by Neil Young!

Thanks RP for introducing me to another great band!
Vocal and song style remind me of Jackie Leven and Doll by Doll, an absolutely awesome band from England, circa 1980. A band that was equally loved and hated but always pushed the boundaries.
