I am milk
I am red-topped ketchup
And I am cool
Cool as the deep blue ocean

I am lost
So I am cruel
But I'd be love and sweetness
If I had you

I'm waiting, I'm waiting for you
I'm waiting, I'm waiting for you

I am weak
But I am strong
I can use my tears to
Bring you home

I'm waiting, I'm waiting for you
I'm waiting, I'm waiting for you
I'm waiting, I'm waiting for you

I am milk
I am red-topped ketchup
And I am cool
Cool as the deep blue ocean

I'm waiting, I'm waiting for you
I'm waiting, I'm waiting for you
I'm waiting, I'm waiting for you
I'm aching, I'm aching for you
I'm waiting for you

I saw them open for the Tears for Fears USA tour. Great show also.
When I bought this album nigh on 30 years ago I played it until the grooves wore out. And it was a CD.
always such a haunting, longing factor to shirley's vocals. love it.
Saw them open for Alanis in Seattle way back when. Great show.
JHC, where was I 1994, beautiful lyrics an vocal
I wish they would play more garbage from the 90s....
Wicked good! Some of the coolest, most stylishly seductive vocals ever! Glad I saw them play on Letterman back when...
Love the whole Garbage catalog. Seen them 4 times. Shirley is the sh@t More Garbage pls BillG!!
Magnifique cman
Good track, but do prefer the Tricky remix version

I've seen that lyric as "red hot kitchen." Seems to me a better fit than a ketchup reference.  Regardless, I love this song. Love how deceptively soft and at the same time yearning and desperate and heart breakingly beautiful it is, and that this is the final track of an album of otherwise hard edged techno grungy goodness. It's such a different sound from the rest of the tracks on the album, but such a great way to close it out that always felt perfect to me.
The mellotron takes this to the next level imo.  Love what it adds to the song.

I am thinking the color of her skin. Red-topped ketchup is the color of her lipstick.

Yeah, it's a weird, Bondish vibe tune -- but still mesmerizing and cool, even if you have no idea what it's supposed to mean.

I was lucky enough to see Shirley and the boys in person in late 2019, and they still have it, big time.   Her voice and stage presence were great, and the band's musicianship is sharp and  the sound impeccable.....almost like a top producer was sorting out the mix.... Oh yeah, there's that Vig guy on the drums...

Hope to see them again post lockdown - or, as Monty Python might have put it, have Shirley Manson dropped on top of me.

So, what's she up to there? seems to be waiting for someone or other. What will be the outcome of that, then? Maybe she's at the dentist. Always waiting. The bus? I'm always waiting for that. Lots of waiting going on there.

I think it's the dentist as she does refer to the aching a couple of times at the end.

This was one of the greatest debut albums to come out in a long time when it did.  Fresh, totally original sound all their own.  It still stands up.  Just got the vinyl reissue recently (an all analogue effort with the masters still being fresh as this album is rather recent) and it is a vast improvement over the CD which I got back when this was new.  The CD was blown out and clipped throughout.  The vinyl was toned down and respectfully mastered.

You know I had never considered this as a vinyl to acquire. I only recently resurrected a turntable and my vinyl collection is really laughable as a time capsule of the 80's... that being said I really like your comment because her voice is actually very good and I can see where their music might really shine in analog through my Advents.
I'm pretty sure it's red hot kitchen rather than red topped ketchup - not that either make any real sense to me.

Yes, and cause of the 'Rona' we are going to keep waiting for the next Bond film.

Sometimes I understand a song on an intellectual level.
Sometimes I understand a song on an emotional level.
Sometimes I understand a song on some strange sort of subconscious level.
This one I’m not sure I understand on any level really, maybe a bit of all three?
It’s still a nine for me though.  : )
Another one I haven't heard for some time. Definitely a Bond theme!
Love this track, but the remix by Massive Attack is even better
Almost everything about this is fitting- garbage
to add to the long line of thank you's:

Wow. I had no idea of this thing's existence!
Thanks for that link!

As for Garbage: I'm only just discovering them, but I definitely like what I'm hearing here!
I played the disc yesterday, still as good as on release. If anything it has grown on me over the years, a bit like moss.
Great album in its day.  I still like it now.
Amen, sister. I'm waiting for him, too. :(
No you're not.
No idea what Shirley is talking about ("I am milk").. But definitely one of their best.

"I am weak, but I am strong... I can use my tears to bring you home".

My therapist is going to have a field day when I bring this passive-aggressive, dominating/control issues line up next week...

Timeless, love it!

Ahhh..Shirley Manson has such a suductive voice...First time I heard Garbge was over 10 years ago. Fell in love then and still. Great stuff never got the recognition they deserved.
Not milk.. ''-I'm waiting, I'm waitng for you''. :P:P

Oh my lovely Garbage sister Shirley..when garbage is great
One of the better bands coming out of the 90:s. No need for me harp on the memorable smoothness of their production, meloman managed to show that for us all. =)
happy v-day shirley!
well buddy, your comment is over a year old, and this album is almost a dozen years old, and people do remember it so far. perhaps ten years from your comment, we'll all have forgotten shirley and the boys, but i doubt it! meloman wrote:
Oh come on! Is this REALLY a song anyone will remember in 10 years? Honestly, a fine example of what's wrong with so much insipid contemporary music. Boring!

Yep REALLY...this album is at least 10 years old and I still love the whole thing.

This song gives me goosebumps. I saw Garbage back in 1999 at the Pantages in Hollywood, and at the time lead singer Shirley Manson mentioned this was her favorite song of theirs. I couldn't agree more. It somehow transcends everything else they've done, a moody, sultry-smooth enigma that resonates in a haunting way. It embraces everything that is great about the band -- namely, their production and Manson's voice, with nary a guitar to be heard. And it still sounds as fresh and mysterious as when it first came out.
Absolutely. Hot, yet so chilling. Like the best kiss in the world.

A tune that seems to have stuck in my head and now seems overplayed. ok tho
Fancy!

Passsion8..................
One of my favorites off this album.
Beeyooooooootiful song. Me likey.
oh, shirley :)
I never heard a song from Garbage that I didn't like. What an excellent compilation of musicians! I saw them with Alanis Morisette outside of Chicago and was floored by this show!
:sunny There isn't a bad song on the whole album. This is one of the best.

Ironically, this disc is from 1995.

Nice song, but what a stupid name for a band.
I prefer the remix by Tricky. The version that was released as a single.
Got milk? hmmm. Sorry. Bad joke. :tapedshut.gif:
I wish I could sing like Shirley Manson. But alas, I sound like a dying cat.
:nodhead:
This band is really growing on me.

More Garbage!!!!! Wait, Did I just say that? These guys ...and Shirley are sooooooo underrated.
First time that I have heard the original version of this song. I love the Massive Attack version. This one soothes the soul as well.
my favorite song on this album, I think.
