Beautiful.
Wow, I never noticed how very lovely this song is in its simplicity!

Can I interest anyone into a cocktail?

I, on the other hand find Shangri-La to be some of his best work. If you were going to buy one MK CD, this would be the one.
If you're limited to one, it's Golden Heart FTW. But why not have 'em all?

Makes JJ Cale sound like Motorhead!
Actually I like it, but DAMN this is a sleepy tune.

Nice organ in the background.
Mellow... yes! Good sliding stuff... I listen to it again tonight after work. Will wind me down for sure.
BTW: Check out the Shangri-La movie (from the 30s) - really cool movie that made me think a lot about my life :-)
Sometimes it's Ok to write a mellow tune. Like this.

This song is totally lacking in... well, everything. I don't think you could have a more boring song if you tried. At least if somebody like Chris Isaac was singing there would be some vocal interest.
Makes me feel like travelling ...
All hail MK!!
A really nice song.

I have to give a big thanks to RP (yet again) for introducing (or in this case, re-introducing) me to great artists. This song is so great-- i love it! ran right out and got the album.
Perfect for winding down a pleasant night after a successful day.
How I do love RP! Thanks again, Bill!

I am a big Knopfler fan. I have all his CDs and picked this up the first week of release. I have listnened to it many times and find it weak compared to his other creations. The last several songs are almost boring. The songs RP plays off of Shangi-la are the better ones, but not a great CD by any means.

I heard "Postcards from Paraguay" on RP one time, and, based on that, decided this was a "must have album" now I have it, and I think I was right! ;) this also led me to backtrack and get "The Ragpickers Dream" and "Golden Heart". Does that make me a Knopflerite?!?
I have to agree, this sounds just like dire straits. I gonna try the Album.
SMOOOOTH!

Come on, Mark, please tell me getting older is not making your music sedate. This is like Dire Straits Goes Home...

Mark can do no wrong, in my book. Just wish he'd tour the states once awhile., esp. N. CA.
Not to start a flame war with any ParrotHeads, but this is what Jimmy Buffett wishes he could sound like. Perfect stuff for hanging out in the ocean breeze with a cocktail located nearby.
Love it.
This whole CD is awesome -- the stories he can tell!
the second song "Boom, Like That" is getting a lot of commercial air play here - after listening to it a few times I realized that he is singing about Ray Kroc and how he 'started' McDonald's... very cool!

Bill should rename RP to "The Eclectic Mark Knopfler and Peter Gabriël Oeuvre Mix Station". I hear these dudes waaaaay to often.

You can never have too much Knopfler.
I am in total agreement. Knofler is one of my favorite. So smooth and creamy. Yum.
hmmm ... that beginning sounds just like led zeppelin

Hey, let's hear it for physicsgenius. The "1" he just gave this song officially pushed his high to low ratings ratio to 1 to 6.5. Clearly such hard work and diligence at giving out so many ones deserves something?
The boot would be my suggestion.
Nice song from Knopfler.

Sounds a little like Eddie Rabbit.
Mmm, wonderful... makes me feel all is right with the world.
The guy gets it better and better as years go by.
this rivals my fave until today, 'fade to black.' (it's a long sordid story best told over a tall glass of gosling's and lime)
Picked this up a month or so ago and have found it to be an incredible disk packed with great tunes throughout. I'd rank it up there among his best work. Over the years MK has put together a very impressive catalog going back to the Dire Straits days. A rare performer who's really put out consistently good music for a long time.
This is just incredible stuff from Mark Knopfler. Absolutely beautiful. Must go buy this one now. :)
lovely.
