Jeff Buckley — Morning Theft
Time takes care of the wound
Or so I can believe
You had so much to give
You thought I couldn't see
Gifts for bootheels to crush
Promises deceived
I had to send it away
To bring us back again
Your eyes and body brighten
Silent waters deep
Your precious daughter in the
Other room asleep
A kiss goodnight from every
Stranger that I meet
I had to send it away
To bring us back again
Morning theft
Unpretender left,
Ungrateful...
True self is what
Brought you here to me
A place where we can
Accept this love
Friendship battered down by
Useless history
Unexamined failure
What am I still to you
Some thief who stole from you?
Or some fool drama queen
Whose chances were few?
Love brings us to who we need
A place where we can save
A heart that beats
As both siphon and reservoir
You're a woman, I'm a calf
You're a window, I'm a knife
We come together
Making chance into starlight
Meet me tomorrow night
Or any day you want
I have no more right to wonder
Just how or when
You know the meaning fits
There's no relief in this
I miss my beautiful friend
I had to send it away
To bring her back again
Or so I can believe
You had so much to give
You thought I couldn't see
Gifts for bootheels to crush
Promises deceived
I had to send it away
To bring us back again
Your eyes and body brighten
Silent waters deep
Your precious daughter in the

yeah - he could have learned to sing
Someone beat me too it... as I was going to say... "I miss my beautiful friend" as well
Whilst I love Grace it's nice to hear some tracks from a different album too.
Sounds like an under-powered Freddie Mercury.

Seconded, thirded and fourthed. Please play Vancouver. I invented verbs just for the occasion! Fifthed!

Doesn't bear thinking about. Thanks for the 'paltry' offerings we have. "Grace" is one of the finest albums I have ever heard. The thought that he could - would - have got even better is simply too sad to be contemplated.
Bob Marley to Sting to Billy Corgan to Jeff Buckley!!!!!
Nice job Bill....amazing playlist
Just feel I gotta correct Bill on one small matter, it wasn't a boating accident that robbed us from this awesome artist, but a swimming accident... He was found by people on a boat though...

(You can read about it on the record as well...)
What great things he might have written over the past ten years, had he not decided to go for that fatal swim...

Check out 'Satisfied Mind' at the end of the second CD of this album. It was played at Jeff's funeral, and is a really crude demo, just him and his guitar, but very, very beautiful.
i thought i'd heard everything, but i guess not...

Where Grace was a masterpiece, Sketches was (IMHO) a complete mess of an album. The depth, diversity and subtleness that made Grace one of the great albums of all-time was barely in sight in Sketches. Except, that is, for "Opened Once" and this song which is a brilliant.
In this song you can feel the passion and hear the range of his stunning voice. Yeah, it's a bit more raw that the tunes in Grace, but then who knows how these songs would have ended up had Jeff survived to release them.
Exactly, the reason the album doesn't sound finished and kind of a mess is just that, it is a mess and unfinished. The liner notes talk about how the record company made a deal with Jeff's mom to release what was listenable from the album as is with no overdubs or anything, just as Jeff left it. So you have one disc of songs in various production stages (this being one of the more finished ones) and another with all the crappy-sounding four-track recordings. Personally, I think the songs off Sketches had more potential than those off Grace.
