Victor Wooten on bass?
first I heard it, so a solid 9 to me.

Why did I had that rated at an 8. It is at least a 9
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....
Yup...this is not Stomping Grounds, at least not the version on Live Art. But that's what Shazam keeps calling it. Tasty, nonetheless.
Banjo and sax? Now that's a first

Agreed. The bass player stole that show.
Bela's music is monotonous, but there is one man in his band which i could listen 24/7: Victor Wooten.

Can't remember how many times I saw Béla Fleck and the Flecktones back in the early/mid 90s. Great memories. And Victor Wooten is a stellar bass player!
Somebody mislabeled. The song played was Throwdown At The Hoedown (and an alternative take at that...where did this come from and how can I get it?)
Me too! Awesome! 8 >> 9.

Is it the correct album?
Where might the song be if it's not?
Heyyyy! We've finally discovered Bela Fleck, weirdly cool pleasing stuff. Jazz banjo! Yeah baby. "Little Worlds" triple CD is an awesome collection.
I now have a new favorite bass player.
for some reason, Bela reminds me of Dr. Teeth from the muppets.

RP has turned the suck on for the last 20 minutes or so...what's next? More Beth Orten? Please, please rock us. Play something sonically and lyrically enjoyable.
I see you're new here, so let me just say....don't be afraid to leave if you don't like what's playing.
oohh, love this, too! right after john mayall...
thanks RP!
however, i must take note that not everyone loves bela. sad.

Very, very well said!

Hand a banjo to Satriani and this what you'd get... endless noodling with no music in sight.
Scrugging the Alien, perhaps?

First time I've heard jazz banjo. I buy it. Quite cool and humorous.
Since this is the first thing that I heard when tuning into RP this morning I almost turned it off.
Boring. Boring. Borning. It even sounds off key as well.
Self-indulgent and boring.

Ha! Them are fighting words, my friend!
Have you heard the track "The feeling", off "Flying in a blue dream"? If not, check it out, and rethink what you've written.
Fantastic! More Bela Fleck!
I'm to lazy to go grab the disk from my shelf- is that Shawn Colvin on backup vocals? I know she did a few songs on Outbound, but this song is originally on Left of Cool (I'm not familiar with the cd that is listed with this song on RP). Anyone know?

you hit it right on the head! that's what has always rubbed me the wrong way about this guy . . .
and no, ending with "shave and a haircut" does not qualify as soul . . .

You could even omit the word jazz from that, and you'd get no argument from me.

Exactly right. This one is mis-labelled.
I prefer this kind of banjo music to the strain that's coming out of the US at the moment.
Deliverance us from Bad Banjos

And... Mr. Vincent Lowenthal of Ithica is the top ice cream scoop juggler on the planet. I'd pay the same amount to see him perform as Fleck.
it might actually be worth some $ to see a good ice cream scoop juggler! that's a skill possessed by few people. but anyone with access to a recording studio could put out Fleck's dreck.

Isn't jazz supposed to be... what's that word... COOL? Isn't it supposed to have... what's that word... SOUL?

Boy - I don't know what this ego trip thing is all about. I've had the great pleasure of chatting with Victor (he even posed with my son for a pic) and found him to be a warm and humble person.
And I must agree with shayde - these guys are in the world class of muscians.
....and I have to reiterate - this sh*t scratches the itch! 8)
Maybe it's just musicians that GET this band. I play and cannot see why anyone would say they are crap. The level of respect, showmanship, difficulty, dedication and songcraft is truly unbelievable.

Call me what you will, but I'd be at a loss to name another.
Absolutely agree! -- no ego trips with these guys -- I've met them, too and they are phenomenally humble and approachable, especially when one considers their collective talent level.
I give Bela Fleck an A for effort and creativity, but I just don't think the banjo was created for jazz. Just doesn't work, but hey, that's just me.

What? You know, I've sat down and chatted with Bela and Vic Wooten and Jeff Coffin, and to call them having an 'ego trip' is a grave insult. They are _MASTER_ level musicians. They play the music they love to play, doing things no one else is doing. Do they spout from the top of the towers about their skill? No. Do they go on talk shows and 'celebrity dinners' and have paparazzi following them around? Not at all. They play small venues letting folks come up and chat with them after the shows.
Bela Fleck is probably the top jazz banjo player on the planet. Vic Wooten has been called the best bass player of this generation (and I play bass, I agree). Jeff Coffin I've seen and heard play many times, he is a virtuoso. What's not to go nuts over here?
This is an 'ego trip'? I'll take it - these guys are some of the best in their class, I see no 'ego trip' here. They play masterful music.
Preach on brotha, preach the good word.

Truly so. Sax must resonate differently for some than others. This sax is almost making me nauseous in its hideousness. Then again some may be complaining about the banjo, which I have no problem with. Anyway, I guess those of us who are hunched over the porcelain throne right now will have to find ways of tolerating this (odious) instrument that is beauty to the ears of some.
Ooh! I've just discovered this is NOT why I listen.
Dang! That's hot!

Don't forget Jeff and Future. Apparently you can't be a virtuoso without being on an ego trip... ah well.
I have seen them live many times and coount Telluride with the Flecktones and Bela and Edgar Meyer as some of my favorite musical moments.
