Just to confirm that I'm not crazy, this song was originally released in 1982.
I Ran after Run Like Hell. I never realized their similarities until today.
RP is playing the longer, album version which unfolds at a leisurely 5+ minutes. For those hankering for their MTV fix the original radio-play version was a punchy under-4 minutes.

Just a great pop single. The lead singer was mocked for his extravagant hairstyle (being a hair stylist after all) but whatever makes you stand out from the crowd and 40+ years on we still remember. Top 10 in the US but oddly didn't crack the Top 40 in their native UK.

Many good singer-songwriters and musical groups were cast aside because they wouldn't alter their vision to conform with the Warner/Paramount/Comcast vision.

We all hated this for a while but time has been kind to this band. Liking it now means two things-
1- you've learned to laugh at yourself

A guilty pleasure from late 1982, maybe around November-December was when the song peaked. Was all over the radio and on MTV back then. Would love to go back to those days for a while.

I couldn't believe that the cover band they had playing at the main stage was playing a whole host of Flock of Seagulls songs and I even commented to my wife that while I liked some of their songs, I was surprised they had a cover band dedicated to their music. In the early summer of '83 when this was all over the airwaves, it was announced on KBCO that they were going to do a show at RedRocks! and there were still seats available! but my friends and I were like, "Nahh... Let's do 3-4-1s at The Walrus instead..." We slightly regretted dismissing them, and have always wondered if it was a good show. I'm happy to say that it makes me feel elated and nostalgic to hear it now. They had their time in the limelight, and it can still shine on RP...

Jeez, 1982 and all the rest just left the playing field, great song, made even better with the knowledge that Mike Score had no musical training, but was a hairdresser - luv the 'cut.
This one does take me back - but not to the hairdressers. I've been painting and this works well for me...while driving too (music, not painting).
