And the morning light was breaking
Slowly movin' across the bed
He gets up without her wakin'
To the voices in his head
Through the shadows in the hallway
To the room they painted blue
And on the inside he is frightened
At a loss for what to do
Until he opens up his eyes
And the angels all look down
Even closer than this life
Closer than your faith
Closer than the things that you hold dearly
And in vain
Closer than this life
Falling through again
Giving more than anything
That you could hope to win
And he knows his life is changing
It's never easy letting go
For the first time you are mortal
As the child before you grows
And he wonders at the sight
Of the joy that they have found
Even closer than this life
Closer than your faith
Closer than the things that you hold dearly
And in vain
Closer than this life
Falling through again
Giving more than anything
That you could hope to win
And what would you intend to find?
Solitude? Your peace of mind?
Holding out for something less
Than touching the hand of God?
Even closer than this life
Closer than this faith
Closer than the things that you hold dearly
And in vain
Closer than this life
Falling through again
Giving more than anything
That you could hope to win
Closer than this life
Closer finally
Living for the only thing
You ever made complete
Oh, for the one thing
That you both did perfectly
Slowly movin' across the bed
He gets up without her wakin'
To the voices in his head
Through the shadows in the hallway
To the room they painted blue
And on the inside he is frightened
At a loss for what to do
Until he opens up his eyes
And the angels all look down

My vote for most underrated band on the scene right now. And I understand that is saying a lot.
This band had some promise at the beginning with their first two albums...but now they just plain suck.
Nice choice! BTE does it just fine.
An 8.
Overwrought
Chorus sux, lyrics sux, music sux, ezra sux

YUCK! PLGHECH! MAN THIS sh*t STINKS. hORRIBLE VOICE. MUSIC MIGHT AS WELL HAVE BEEN COPIED DIRECTLY FROM SOME EIGHTIES RADIO GARBAGE TUNE. AND YES! MY FIRST THOUGHT AS THE SONG BEGAN WAS hEY? IS THIS LIVE? ALL THE PEOPLE WHO LIKE THIS COULD PROLLY JUST TURN ON THEIR LOCAL SOFT (PRETEND) ROCK STATION. DOESN'T FIT THE ECLECTIC CATEGORY.
what? i couldn't quite tell what you were saying. eclectic is a category? the POINT of the word eclectic is that it's a mix of MANY categories. including those you don't like. deal with it.
as for the song, it was pretty mediocre. so much so, in fact, that i don't remember what it sounds like... that's unfortunate.
It's not too hard to be better than ezra.

Understandable; they suck, too.
Yep, it's kinda sappy. But I find myself getting a bit choked up at the lyrics. I guess I'm wussing out.

What an irritating voice he has. Yuck.
"... and the pony she named 'Wildfire'..."
So histrionic and over-earnest that I though it was Live for a moment.
I see RP is repenting for playing Oingo Boingo by following it up with Blind Melon and Better Than Ezra....whew!! :whip:
A lot of good songs on this album, including this one, the title track.
Better Than Ezra's good but Ezra's better.
This starts out sounding just like a Live song but then it quickly becomes unworthy of Live. Of course, so is most of Live's music over the last few years :)
Thanks Bill. I love Ezra. :)
I\'ve always loved this dreadfully underplayed group and this is a nice song. Thanks for digging out some BTE, RP!
Wow, I didn\'t have a chance to see who this was until almost the end of the song. I kept saying to myself, this voice sounds familiar, but I can\'t place it. I was SSOOO surprised when it turns out to be these guys - the song is much better than I\'d expect from them. Can\'t believe I liked it this much!
enh :(
great song...great album.
Is it me or does this song sound like that 70\'s song about a horse
\" She ran calling Wildfire\"??
They also had another song that at least in my state got alot of radio play \"Desperately Wanting\". I can\'t believe someone would say that he has a terrible voice. I think it\'s one of the richest voices in Rock. What? Would you rather hear someone like Scott Stapp sing like he has his jaw wired shut. Kevin has a good voice. It\'s definitely not typical though.

Not that I listen to ANY other music radio besides RP anymore, but I have never heard Better Than Ezra on commerical radio.
\'It\'s not easy to be me\'. Honestly speaking, a phrase I\'ve guite often used too. Well it\'s all you got- and at least not boring.

One More Murder was on the Xfiles sound track also....
but if you live in New orleans you can see why they wrote it(we had quite a few that year, almost all drug related) but We get them on FM here more cuz they're locals
