A beautiful story, told by music without words, experienced by a girl child and a snow goose. It is about the terror and hope during WWII endured by good peaceful beings whilst the Nazi's raged.
Enjoy also the original tale, told in words without music, written by Paul Gallico, the inspiration :)
The quality mastery of instruments by Camel is pure wonderful creativity.
Far better than any other resting tonic -- play the whole album anytime. Especially if you struggle to fall asleep and / or are are distracted by stress ;)
Another great concept album by Camel is Nude. And they recorded so much other great music also.
Joy for great peaceful sentient beings ! ! !

Sounds like Focus!!
Tasty! Sounds like the Tull.
Yes, it's Prog. But it's gentle, comfortable, melodic Prog. What a great tune. I'm a huge Camel fan.
Just as long as he doesn’t sing...😐

What an absolute beauty, The Snowgoose! I’d recommend listening the whole album. For me the very best of Camel.

This was one of "those bands"...more of legend than a band.

Thank the gods for the "Next" button. Sorry, I can dig me some modern WTF-prog like Lamb, NoMeansNo, Battles or Critters Buggin', but this needs to stay in the 70s.
Bought the CD. One of the best music purchases I have made in a while.
Smashing, a bit of proper prog on RP.
Have an 8/10 from me.

I've always thought it sounded like Jethro Tull and Rush got together and had a big disco baby. Truly the roots of prog-rock encased in vinyl. Thank you for the memories Bill!

Thanks for bringing back great college memories.
Giggity! Love the old-school prog-rock of Camel. Latimer is such a talented dude.

Kit Watkins! I have his solo stuff, like Azure. He's really doing some nice things these days. Yes, he would fit in nicely at RP. And I like this too! Always do. One of my first CD purchases was a Camel collection. Great stuff.

Ok, last year (almost to the day, I might add) I posted that I did not like this song. Well, this year, I kind of admit that it is ok. I guess we all go through changes, huh?

There isn't any connection between the band Camel and the Camel cigarette brand. The cigarette pack is immitated in the UK release of the Mirage album, and the camel image associated with Camel Productions looks very much like the cigarette logo, but hey, it's an side-view image of a Camel... what else would you expect?!
How can they get away with rippng off the logo? There was a thrift store in my town call Sacks Thrift Avenue and the real store from NY came in and sued and made the little bitty thrift store change its name - they soon went ouf business.

Did somebody put me on "hold"?
Years since I last heard Camel. Not the greatest of bands, but consistently good. More please.

Yup - could it be a vinyl dub with a shot stylus?
Still, amusing to hear it again after what seems like a lifetime.
So glad to see a station play Camel! Great way to start my day.
I personally just can't get into this. I've never really liked the sound of the flute as a lead instrument (as opposed to being blended into an orchestra). It might be a generational thing though...most of the comments are saying "Great to hear this after (25-27) years! That would put me at somewhere between -6 months and -2 1/2 years old.

Haven't heard this in years. I have the vinyl somewhere in a bin. Not the greatest song but it aged better than I thought

The depth on RP always impresses me.

Then I felt myself.....

Echoes of Sea Train, Blues Project, Jethro Tull--whoa, all flute groups. Musta been something I ate...
Now Mark, how does it feel to be attacked on not liking a song?
I can understand people don't like it, and I fully respect it.
Just remember that Camel has had a lot of influence on Film music, and has written some of it as well. Tangerine Dream is another example of a group that has written enourmous amounts of film music and never made the public acceptance for their `normal' records.
I for one like them both very much.

Comments like this just amaze me. They are usually made by someone who has no clue what it takes to write a musical composition. Having pen and paper (or a Cascio) does not make one a writer (composer). And it's harder than it (apparently) seems.
After reading all of those negative comments (and the witty rebuttals), I will just say this: I don't like this song! Analyze that! :P

Although I disagree with your "pointless prog rock" statement, I do tend to agree that technical ability does not always ensure good music. (Although it often doesn't hurt, either.)
Like all art, music is subjective. I just happen to like this type, and you don't. To each their own.

A great song that made me whistle instantly
One of my favourite bands. I/think/ I got all their records (not CD's)
edit 10-12-2004: recognition on the first chords. Fabulous.
Still one of my favourite bands
What was the name of the song by Camel that starts with the opening and pouring of a beer?
I bought this CD at amazon.com because I heard it here at RP & haven't regretted it! I even got the book/story from the library to see what it was all about. RP doesn't just broaden our musical horizons.
I've been listening to Camel in their various forms since 1975 (when I was a high school senior, doing what seniors did back then) and own every album that they have put out. I've seen them twice in concert, and to this day there is no other band that comes close to putting out such a variety of great music that never gets old, no matter how much you listen.
For many Camel songs, you need to be patient and listen to them multiple times before it sinks in that what you are hearing is truly artistic music that was (and is) way ahead of its time.
Thank you Andy Lattimer, for 30 years of fantastic musicianship!
Start making your own "Camel tracks" with:
Moonmadness (Lunar Sea, Another Night, Air Borne)
Mirage (Lady Fantasy, Nimrodel)
Raindances (First Light, Rain Dances)
A Nod and a Wink (Squigley Fair, For Today)

Hey, Bill...
Thanks for putting this long forgotten song to a brief but not unimportatant resurgence.
Many deep thanks to an era that needs more remembrance.

I would suggest giving Camel's other stuff a chance. I totally missed them while I was listening to other music over the last several decades. then I stumbled upon somthing they released about two years ago called "A Nod And A Wink". Very nice and musical. More recently I searched out a bunch of their old music and I felt that for the most part it sounded less dated than I thought it would. There's lots of real good intelligent musicianship in there.
Ah! The Snow Goose- brings back good memories from high school days! Thanks!
Excellent choice! The live version is even better.

One of the classic reasons I've come to enjoy this station so much- a band totally unknown to me, but one obviously skilled and with a vibe all it's own. Thanks!
Don't know how i missed this when it was new - just glad i found it now
Ah the days of Camel...The appeal has somewhat vanished with time but their music was Sooooooo cool back then.
Somewhere I have two Camel vinyl albums.... one has a song that has something about a lake in the title... great little song. More Camel please. Now you are going to make me tear up the garage to find those albums!!!
Man, I\'ve not heard Camel for years. This is great, and please feel free to play more prog rock from this era. This is the stuff that didn\'t get much airplay in the 70s and early 80s, but still has more musical bang for the buck than most present-day material.
I saw camel once, great show.Bob McClay played this on ksan in the old days.

Hey! Cool to hear them! Trivia: I went to high school with (and had a huge crush on) Kit Watkins who was one of their keyboardists. He is a fabulous musician whose stuff would fit in with the eclectic here!
kewl. Reminds me of Tull, I\'m sure Pilly will love it :D
