(translation)

(Even) If the doors of the righteous will shut
The Doors of Heaven will still be open
The Living God will exalt them by Cherubs
All will raise by his Spirit
Living God

Since they are close to his Throne
They will thank His Name and praise
The sacred animals (holy beasts) will run around
From the Day of Creation they were included (at God's Throne)
Wheels and cycles are in uproar
Thanking His Name and blessing
Surrounded by the glamour of His glory
Living God

By the power of their six wings
They are flying around and swirling
They will answer by a pleasant voice of their songs
And together, by miracles ensigned

(Even) If the doors of the righteous will shut
The Doors of Heaven will still be open
Living God

I had the 12inch remix of this.  I put it on the turntable in 1999.  It finished last Tuesday.

One of my high school friends went on to be one of the top DJs in Toronto in the 80s (DJ Iain), and he introduced me/us to so much groundbreaking music. I still remember him dropping this into his mixes, the first of the wave of Middle Eastern influenced music that would soon include Dissidenten and 3 Mustapha 3. Amazing beautiful music that still sounds fresh all these years later.

Hey Bill, what about playing some "Dissidenten"?

So this is a push-back on the purported hypocrisy of the self-righteous...?

Perhaps a clearer translation of נדיבים [nadi:vim] is simply 'generous'. So:

"(Even) if  the doors of the generous are locked
The doors of Heaven are not locked"

The context is liturgical-religious: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Im_Nin%27alu
That Wiki photo looks like my Aunt Nora, from years ago. Just saying...
Wow, didn't know she died. My teenage self mourns.

Have you gotten well yet?  You know the saying,  "if you can't say something good better to not ............"
Hey Bill!
Thanks for playing tunes from my Playlist....

Yeah, I was intrigued by this song at first, but they keep doing the same riffs over and over.  The chorus hook also gets overdone, with the synth sting at each end.  Those producers should have seriously gotten someone from New York City to fine tune this track.  It's good but it has so much potential.

I assume because it's still a strong contender for worst song played on RP.
Was this part of the soundtrack of White Orchid? Interesting movie, great music

Thanks Bill for opening our eyes and minds. Frankly I couldn't tell if this was Hebrew or Arabic. When I was young I never thought much about the middle east, but living in North Africa made me see so many similarities between Hebrew and Muslim cultures. It seemed odd to me they could be at such odds. Too bad they can't embrace their commonalities more.

I agree. I guess it's all in the perceptions of commonalities or differences. As long as there are people on both sides who have absolutely no interest in settling the dispute, this is what we'll get.

Kind of like when you're getting into your car for a busy commute. Are the other drivers competition or brethren? I'm amazed at how much conditioning oneself to one or the other changes the way one drives.

Ho Hum, from the middle east to driving, someone's having a confused morning. Sorry

And cool tune, although I like the original better.

I remember this track when I was globetrotting and spent time in Israel🥳

He repeats expecting a different result (reception). The definition of madness.
Def with the record

This disc and Danielle Dax's Dark Adapted Eye were my go-to in 1987-88. I'm sure the neighbors were wondering WTF?

This is pretty cool!

Thinkin' of a master plan
Ain't nothin but sweat inside my hand...
Bought this when it first came out on 12" vinyl. Loved it then, love it now and the vinyl still gets a spin regularly.
東風で舞い上がる大きな紙凧のようです。

Spine-tinglingly exotic. Pure RP. Brill as this is  the version by the late Cheb i Sabbah is even better. Hunt it down on Youtube.
This reminds me of my college years and exposed me to dance music from the Middle East. What a rabbit hole I went down I my trip to musical discovery once I heard this. Still love it.

RIP Ofra yall trippin hard pay respect smh
Only just realized Ofra Haza sang on Temple of Love with Sisters of Mercy.    She is best when her voice takes center stage.

I had the 12 inch extended mix of this.  I put it on in 1989.  It's still playing.
unusual vote mix up there. me I'm a 7
Wow, haven't heard this forever. This got a decent amount of air play on my local station when it came out.

Some folks need to lighten up. It was a joke. A rather funny one at that.

A track on one of the first CD's I ever bought... an early World Music compilation... loved it then and it still sounds pretty fine to my now much older ears..
She looks like she's about to make that noise that kids make blowing into their hands...
Thank you for the translation.

Wikipedia says it has been released in 1988 ... ;-)
Anyway, wouldn't rate the song "horrible" as others judge it here, average of 5.8 matches quite well from my point of view
her rendition of Kashmir (acoustic) is hauntingly beautiful {#Good-vibes}
RIP lady Ofra....

Agreed.

Rare is it that a song of such poor quality is played here.

Was getting ready to post this. However, she is Israeli, not Indian.

I really enjoy this! Sad to read here that she is gone :-(
This is pretty contemporary sounding for 1993.
Never thought I'd hear Ofra again. This was a really fun record. RIP, Ofra.
thank you! only on RP would I hear this! takes me back, ’87? thank you!
Miss her...she was amazing.
Very good

I love this song and this artist. Brilliant sample on Erik B & Rakim's "Paid In Full." Stellar.

That is the main thing I love about that song, always wondered where that sample came from!{#Cheers} Pump up the volume, pump up the volume!
Interesting history.
Ofra Haza had an amazing, evocative voice. Her life was cut too short.
Oh, this one is a real marmite, isnt it?    Very dated to late 80s and 8 bit sampling tech is testement to that.

It takes me back to a time when hair was bigger, shoulder pads were obligatory and Crockett and Tubbs were driving around in a testarossa.         im going to give this an 8 for re living old times and not going on for too long.

good :)

She wasn't "Indian pop" ...She was an Israeli Yemenite making her way with

 her talent...and a beautiful voice...what a great loss.

Really?!!!

Please.

Never again.
she made a great cover of Kashmir, it's pretty haunting

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fu5Cgb6Yy4Y
Has some interesting stereo effects in the intro.
Not fond of the vocal treatment.

This sounds like Madonna trying to sing Indian music. Which I wouldn't put past her...

I second that. I think it's painful because it has sound at too many pitches and rhythms at once.

I hate this song!!!
A long-forgotten song from a long-forgotten album. Neat to hear this one streaming by again... This is one of those CD's people see in your collection and say "WTF...Ofra...who? Shaday what?" Was also one of my first "out of the mainstream" buys way-back-when...think I heard her on SNAP on KCRW back in the day...
I love this song and this artist. Brilliant sample on Erik B & Rakim's "Paid In Full." Stellar.
Thanks for playing one of the songs that helped start my exploration of "world music" way back when.
Yikes!
Ofra Haza - a song heard way too many times. Those are the times I am glad that shoutcast has other radio-stations.
Go directly to One-Hit Wonder Forum. Do not pass Go. Do not collect additional royalties.
You gotta be kidding! Someone owning a copy of this...hummm...masterpiece in the 80s actually allowed it to waste valuable space for 15 years?
Gets a little tedious. I think its the synth sounding noise backing up the vocals. Wouldn\'t mind liking it but it wears me out quickly.
CRAP
Arrghh again!!
oooph!
