 Yes, he is a descendant of said writer of shaggy whale story. His parents thought the name Richard Melville might be a bit much for a baby and so nicknamed him Moby.

EVEN the highest rated tracks here (think Floyd, Jimi, Beatles, Bach, Beethoven) have negative posts and folks saying some version of "this doesn't belong on RP" - whatever BillG sees fit to play fits PERFECTLY here.

I've generally appreciated Moby's works, but this Arcade-Fire lite song is the definition of a shameless sell-out song. Here we see a professional songwriter aping every dominant trend of current pop music- the gospel choirs, the vague uplifting platitudes. It's somehow worse to see it from someone like Moby, but I guess those penthouses don't pay for themselves. This is the first song that I ever heard on Radio Paradise that I instantly loathed.

This is the best song Moby has done in 10 years.  I just got caught up with the rest of his work and now I own a copy of all of his CDs...for me this is a return to what he does best. He seemed off in an intellectual noodling phase like Radiohead is in but now he is back!


I was jammin' to this in my car the other day and this song brought out tears---certainly NOT the kind of tears it brings out in you Mr. Ray!

Actually Moby is one of a pair of aliases.  It's the one he uses for all his commercial dreck (AKA the shit that would pay the bills, assuming revenues from Play aren't still paying all the bills).  You want interesting electronica look into anything he's released under the alias Voodoo Child.
