on this worst night of our lives, the thought of imminent mass deportation is a nightmare. God help us.
Thanks for the reference to this motion picture!
this is beautiful.
He also did the title track to The Last of Us...somewhat similar.
I'm sure this was used in Motorcycle Diaries as well

Beautiful. Have hunted for a version of this on vinyl - alas, I don't believe it exists.

I freaking love it when RP is on a roll, playing one badass song after another...
This sounded a lot like “Motorcycle Diaries.” Then I looked up the composer and said “of course it does!” Great stuff. Please put more of Santaolalla in rotation.
Epic…

No.  Granted, it's in a minor key and uses some South American instruments (whatever that means), but . . . why compare?
If this tune appeals to you, check out some of his other work. Although he's know mostly for scoring films, he's just a terrific composer and multi (string) instrumentalist, period. If you like the score for the film Babel, check out another film he scored, "The Motorcycle Diaries". There's a humanistic subtlety to his style that just resonates, at least for me.

Thanks Bill.
I do like the occasional long meditation but for some reason this one grates me
Looks like he handled the soundtrack for Narcos Mexico on Netflix... added a lot to the vibe!
I'm sorry. I just can't get into this song. We call it the song that goes nowhere. Forever.

Was captivated the 1st time I heard it. {#Meditate}

This will always be Deadwood to me...among the best drama I have ever watched.
And always had great music!

After seeing keller1's post and before I read ScottN's comment, I was wondering when the knife-fight was going to break out.

This was used in Deadwood?! I've only gotten as far as the beginning of season 2. So much mud and drinking and swearing.

This exchange below is found on Gustavo Santaolalla — Deportation/Iguazu but it really belongs here. Love TerryS's story.

That song was made famous prior to WW1 when a Peruvian composer orchestrated an ancient folk song and our guide spat when hearing another tourist say it was a copy of S & G's El Condor Pasa.
He said (and I quote as best my memory will allow) "my grandfather's grandfather was young when he learned this song at the feria".
Then he surprised the hell out us and pulled out a wooden flute, playing the original while we struggled up over Dead Woman Pass. (13,800 feet) I live at sea level btw.

Gustavo is a genius.  Glad Hollywood found him- we are enriched musically because of it.
Bill, check out his song his song "Gaucho" on Ronroco- this was my intro to Santaolalla— before he ever made it to Hollywood.  It's a must for your collection- in fact, I'll make it my first submission.
Peace out from Burkina Faso.
Beautiful
Having been to Morocco and Iguazu, this speaks to me of dry, shimmering horizons, rather than roaring falls a mile wide.
This is gorgeous, the rest of the two disc CD is pretty forgettable.
What a masterpiece.
How beautiful. I've been away from r. P. too long.

Sam Shepard
Robby Müller

I want to really like this piece but it sounds like it is in an intense hurry.

I don't feel the saga, I don't even feel a super short story, I don't feel the direction of the piece.

Perfect for a sound track.  Standalone.....  not so sure.

Disagree, was in Morocco last month and  this played on my mp3 player while busing south through the arid canyons towards the Sahara, it was apropos.
Is there any way we can reduce the amount of times that he is playing on RP? For some reason I get nervous when I hear this. PSD usually saves my physical health.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, everybody in my alien space craft loves this music...

Wow, I love when I'm listening to RP and have to stop what I'm doing to see who's on.  This is incredibly beautiful and gives me chill bumps. Though different, alan Stivell's music has the same effect and is reminiscent of this, or rather this is reminiscent of Stivell.

A song does not need context.   It stands on its own if it is going to get played here.   "Context" is for all of that shit "modern" "art" that all the sheeps see who go to modern art museums.  Andy Warhol was ALL about context (and crappy art){#Stop}{#Naughty}
Beautiful, beautiful
This one seems to take a great deal of time going nowhere , at least to my ears .
Probably just need new ears , judging by the high rating .

Ah yes, this song again. I love RP, but it seems more and more like Bill is just recycling old programs and artists. Even my spouse remarked on this the other day. I find myself going back to Pandora more and more.

How about some new stuff Bill?
ahhh it reminds me so much of the Tristram music in the original Diablo

Also in the soundtrack of 'The Insider'

Although I don't share the sentiments on the choice, as it's a memorable piece of music, I laughed when I saw the "quote"
