Trust, you know how to take it
Love, you know how to fake it

And I will be there beside you
The camera eye, the drug is just to be near you

Hey, well I can take rejection
Hey, what does it take to get your attention?
Cos you're a man of the people
A man of the people
And I'm just part of the plan

I lie here like a dog
And think of all I would undo
Anyone would go
But I got nowhere to go to

And what is left of us?
Now there's only the cinders
Ambition froze me out
Like a demonic winter

Hey, well I can take rejection
Hey, what does it take to get your attention?
Cos you're a man of the people
A man of the people
And I'm just part of the plan

Hey, well I can take rejection
Hey, what does it take to get your attention?

Hush now, the winter gets you
Hush now, the winter gets you down
Hush now, the winter gets you
Hush now, the winter gets you down

Steven Wilson sure likes his face on album covers with a pretentious look and posture. Wouldn't be surprised if he had a bit of narcissism.

Musically I find his solo albums of varied quality.  Some tracks are very good and some feel uninspired and repetitive. Some even sounds almost like prog rock caricatures.

This one track is neither good or bad. It's like a small water stream besides the road. You only start to notice it's existence because someone mentioned it. Nothing special.
Talented guy, I keep on being impressed with his stuff.
End of the year PT

Fived time for me for this nerd
Sure he's a genius, but this is not his best.
Wow great song!
Porcupine Tree...Fear of a Blank Planet almost

No.  It is a lament for authoritarian populist politics everywhere.

But nobody would blame an American like you for being narrowly focused on me, myself and I.

Read much?

Yes, I do read quite a bit. But just because I poked fun at one faction of politics/society, doesn't mean ,in any way, that I'm ignorant of what's happening on a broader scale, nor that I don't understand what this song is actually about. I do believe you are the one with a narrow focus, based on your self centered assumptions about me.

Hey Jelani - probably because you aren’t funny?

Oh, sure I am. I think I simply hit a nerve.

Why the thumbs down? Please explain?
Love this album and the B-sides collection digital release that preceded it.  Disco meets techno?

'Man of the People'.  Kinda sums up this era doesn't it?
Great track, some of the backing cords definitely remind me of welcome to the machine.
He always gets my attention whenever. Thanks so much RP for turning me on to him and PT. I agree, this song doesn’t quite have the depth that porcupine tree did but it’s still quite good. very enjoyable
Thought at first I was hearing something different from "Tears for Fears". Enjoyable listen
really digging this song!
That segue from Led Zep to this song was surprisingly effective! Well done Bill!

Been a while since Bill & Becca pushed a new album this hard. Just sayin'.

And yet, May 1, this is my first hearing and I listen quite a bit. What was that you were sayin'?
Yeah, I'll give it an 8 first listen.  Feels comfortable like a nice pair of sandals.

I saw Mr. Wilson many years ago when I was a young teen. It was my first concert I had ever been to. My older sister bought tickets & on the night of the concert she told me there was a delay. She told me to go rest in bed until it was time to go. An hour later we drove downtown as the concert was now scheduled to start at 10 pm. Better late than never. Anyways Mr. Wilson and his band finally hit the stage. Listening to my older brothers live concert album of them over the years I was really stoked to hear them live. They did not disappoint. Fun Fun Fun! Thanks Brian & The Boys!
I hope to see the other Mr. Wilson soon, when time & life permits.

My 2 favorite Wilsons!

Just like a lot of Steven's music, this album grows on me every time I listen. More proof to me that he's a musical Genius with a capital G.

That cover is so repulsive... he looks like a computer nerd, serial killer and a creep combined.

If you want to see creepy, watch the video for "Self".

As opposed to what?
Something contemporary -2021. Yeah! New stuff.

OK, let me try to unpack this...

Man of the people - 4:36 min
Self - 2:49 min

Each played 4 times in the last 30 days.

That comes up to 29:40 minutes in the last 43 200 minutes.

...just sayin'

I strongly agree with you guielmo.  RP should be definitely playing these new releases more often.

This is the first time I ever pre-ordered an album.   Amazon.ca ships at the end of February.

Not exactly sure what the theme of this album is but it does seem to be a critique of mindless populism and celebrity narcissism.

I hope you ordered the Blu-ray version as it sounds fantastic in 5.1 surround. There are also a few videos which help to explain what he's thinking about.

That said, it's not as good as some of his earlier work, but it's still a very worthy purchase. Enjoy!
I don’ know; the message is good, but not as experimental as PT stuff.
